Interesting blimp story

Postby jimclarke » Wed Jul 21, 2004 1:04 pm

I downloaded the "Just for Fun" scenery by David "Opa" Marshall which has a goodyear blimp doing touch and goes through one of the big hangars at Moffett field.  I also downloaded the Goodyear blimp from the Misc. section.  I followed the AI blimp around the pattern about three times then on the downwind leg I caught up to it and came along its right side (on the outside of the pattern) and slightly behind it.  The AI blimp continued south (never turned base) and we kept going together several miles.  Finally I made a fairly sharp 180 turn to the right to head back to Moffett.  The AI blimp made a much wider turn to the right and seemed to just wander around.  I landed back at Moffett and sure enough here came the AI blimp and it went back to its regular routine.  I thought it was really interesting that I had somehow influenced the flight pattern of the AI blimp.  Is it supposed to do that?

Hmmmm, AI never seems to avoid me  :P .
I think something like this happened to me when I was chasing an An2 ( flying cuircuits ) in my jetranger. It wouldnt turn onto final until I backed off.

This seems to be the only case where you can make an impression on AI in the air  ??? .

Hi Jim,

I've noticed that while shadowing AI flights that I have created..Seems that once they enter the pattern, they will not turn to base leg if I am nearby. If I veer off they will

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Yeah the An2 I was following, was me experimenting with AI traffic.

I wonder if it is intentional, or is it just a glitch?
