Fuel Facilities at JFK

Postby Staiduk » Fri May 28, 2004 10:43 pm

Hello!
OK; this probably qualifies as the gomer question of the month; but does anyone know where in the bloody blue blazes the Avgas refuelling point is at Kennedy International (KJFK) is? I've spent the last hour crawling over every inch of that airport and I can't find it - found the jet fuel tank; the white one out on the western side of the airport but kerosene don't work too good in my DC-3. :)
Thanks. :)

I was flying over JFK for some New York City joyriding while flying to my next Cross Country trip desination. I don't remember ever seeing a re-fuel station there but you can check La Gaurdia just a few miles away  ;)

When I can't find the "gas station" through normal looking, I pull out the airport map -- in this case the top down view (ctl+S) ;D If a pump is present it will show up. Sometimes they are tucked away behind a building and completely hidden from ground view.

The problem is JFK's services in the GPS (had to switch to a different plane to check - my DC-3 doesn't have one) clearly list Avgas; it'd be pretty silly if an airport that size doesn't have it. I have looked via top-down; again the problem is that 1) this airport is so damned big it's easy to miss something like that and 2) pumps do not always look the same - there are several models. It's entirely possible the avgas pumps at JFK sre of a type I'm not familiar with; and therefore not recognizing.
As for flying to La Guardia I'm certain that would work; the problem is I'm conducting a max-realism flight right now; pole to pole. It's totally unreasonable to assume you wouldn't get gas at JFK so rather than just take the easy way out and fly to the next airfield over; I'm gonna try to find that hidden pump! :D

After you land at KJFK go into "Slew" mode and slew around the airport to find it. if you can't find it then you can download a program called "AFCAD" which can be found here on Simviation. AFCAD allows you to modifie Stock Airports ass well as build new airports. or you could just use it to add fuel pumps.

I've done both. AFCAD doesn't show fuel services - or at least mine doesn't. Apparently; someone didn't put Avgas facilities into JFK; though it was listed.
I solved it by just taking off, flying on remaining fuel to Norfolk and filling up there. :)

only refueling spot I can find there is down at the end of runway 13R. There is a small white tank and pump right across from the numbers on the runway.

Thought it was the one you were talking about. Seems like there would be another pump somewhere for avgas but I took the bell all over that airport for thirty minutes and couldn't find any other pump. Had the wife laughing at me for the last ten minutes because she couldn't figure out what I was doing.
