A question for the experts!

Postby KnightStryker » Tue Apr 20, 2004 4:55 pm

I have the new PBY Catalina installed. It flies wonderfully and is easily becoming my most used and favorite plane i have. Now for the question. I have installed every repaint I can find and have run into a very strange problem. about every third or fourth time I start up my FS I can select the PBY but only in the original paint job (Ok, so at least it is installed right and I can fly it). The next time I start up FS all the paints are there and flyable. Does anyone have any idea as to what may be the cause of this? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling each paint one at a time and still have the same problem.

Thanks,
Kevin

Are all the add-ons FS9.    Have just had a similar drama trying to get a FS2002 skin on my Hercules and haven't solved it yet....all the FS9 ones are OK.

Hi Kevin & Bazza. I don't claim to be an expert. Check my sig to see my opinion of that particular breed. LOL ::) ;)

How many variations are we talking about here.? I've seen several comments on unexplained bugs with FS9 in this forum. I can't say that I've experienced anything like it myself so it's difficult to suggest anything. In my experience there's usually a logical explanation for any problem. The fact that it's intermittent is even more puzzling. It's usually a case of either it works or it doesn't.

If you guys care to mail me your Aircraft.cfg files I'll check them out to see if there's something obvious you've missed. I can't promise I'll find it though.

Bazza, all of the skins are FS9. I double checked that after the first time it happened. Good call though.

Hagar,
Nice quote about the expert!
As for you being an expert, that is what I would consider you (of course not in the way the quote would make it sound). Almost every time that you have replied to one of my posts you have had the right answer and saved me countless hours of pulling out whats left of my rapidly thinning hair.

The fact that it's intermittent is even more puzzling.

That is exactly what is driving me crazy! I know they work.
Anyways, I will mail you the cfg file and maybe you can find something. I do appreciate the offer of looking at it for me, once again you prove to be one of the greats here at simV.
Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks for the kind words Kevin. I do my best but it gets more difficult every day. I'll be pleased to check out your CFG. Make sure to give your mail a proper Subject line or I might delete it without reading it.

On the subject of FS2002 repaints in FS9. Repainted textures for 3rd party aircraft should work fine providing they are for the correct (FS2002) version of the aircraft. Updated versions of the same aircraft by the same designer might well use different texture assignments so they will not fit or display properly. The FS9 default textures are completely different to those for previous versions of FS so repaints for FS2002 defaults will be no use unless you install the FS2002 default aircraft to add them to.
