AI Smooth V1.20 Query

Postby eddywinch82 » Wed Feb 22, 2017 3:51 pm

Just wondering, What is the "Control Batchsize" setting in AI Smooth V1.20 ? What is it used for in the program ? Is the number you choose for it,
the amount of AI Aircraft you want AI Smooth V1.20 to handle ? I was having a problem recently, when I had my Traffic volume setting at 100% i.e. both Airliners and General Aviation, I was looking in the menu of the TrafficViewboard Program of approaching AI Traffic at Schipol Airport (EHAM), and some of the Airliners were disappearing from the TrafficViewboard, and not reappearing whilst on approach. Is there a limit to how many AI Aircraft AI Smooth V1.20 can handle. Am I correct about Control Batchsize ? And if so what is the maximum number you can have for it ? Last night I disabled General Aviation Traffic. And currently only have 100% Airliner Traffic in FS2004, and still run AI Smooth V1.20. And now the disappearing Airliners don't disappear and land at EHAM as they should. Any help and info would be much appreciated. Eddie

Actually I am wrong, some AI Aircraft are on approach, and some still then disappear from the TrafficViewboard Program menu. I would love to get to the bottom of this. Eddie

It might be easier to use V1.1 ..... I've been using for years without any of the symptoms that you exhibit. Sometimes less is more.

Hi Captain Midnight,

Many thanks for your reply with your suggestion it's much appreciated. I am just about to try AI Smooth V1.1 in FS2004 using the same settings, I was using in AI Smooth V1.20. I will let you know if it makes a difference. Best Regards Eddie Winch

Hi again Captain Midnight,

I have ran AI Smooth V 1.11 in my FS2004, and fewer AI Aircraft are disappearing on approach.
So many thanks for your suggestion of using an earlier version of AI Smooth to V1.20. Some AI Aircraft are still disappearing,
but now far fewer, than when I was using V1.20 I am trying to find out, what is causing them to disappear. I think it may be due to Schedule problems, as a while back I found
an AI Aircraft was disappearing on approach to the Airport in question. So I altered it's arrival time to later, and sure enough the AI Aircraft no longer disappeared after I did that.
So I think I may be on to something, many thanks once again for your advice.

Best Regards

Regardless of what program you use to control your AI aircraft you have to remember that the more flight plans you create the chances increase that a particular aircraft will be needed some place else.
One of the things you set up when creating a AI flight plan is the times it leaves a airport. What happens here is you have a plane set to fly say a three hour flight using plane A we will say and it is scheduled to leave say 12:00 noon what you forget about is that you have the exact same aircraft leaving from another air port at 2:50 we will say. SO just as the plane is about to land it disappears because it is needed else where.
If you have aircraft disappearing while waiting for take off this is almost always caused by a misplaced or missing hold short at an airport.
If you have ever listened to ATC when the tell you to taxi to runway 7R and tell you to hold short. There is an actual hold short spot on every airport for every runway.
The fast way to find out if you are missing or have a misplaced hold short simply go to that airport make a simple flight plan IFR or VFR it does not matter and when you taxi to the runway and never get the option to ask for take off clearance you have a missing or misplaced hold short. In FS9 this is an easy fix using afcad. I have seen this in a couple of default airports in FS9 sorry I do not remember which ones now.

Hi garymbuska,

Many thanks for your reply to my thread. It is an interesting suggestion you have put forward there. I am using AI Smooth V1.11 and AI Separation V1.1, together when running FS2004. With the recommended settings that Dave Sheffield has told people they should use when running in tandem with each other. Interestingly the other day. I ran FS2004 at the same time Day Month and Airport, without running those two programs. And the AI Aircraft a Vueling Airlines A320, now didn't disappear on approach and landed at the Airport. I can't remember which other AI Aircraft did or didn't disappear, but that is interesting in itself. But unfortunately without running AI Smooth V1.11 at least. obviously more go arounds resulted, and as is well known, AI Aircraft are deleted by the FS2004 Engine, if they are told to go around more than 3 times by the ATC. Why would without running AI Smooth, the Vueling Airline now land and not disappear on approach ? Does AI Smooth delete AI Aircraft sometimes ? And is there a way that can be prevented from happening ? i.e. modification of the program (if allowed) in some way ? I have alot of AI Traffic. But not too much I don't think, I have Ultimate Traffic installed. But I always carefully unselect the relevant Airlines when doing an "Ultimate Traffic" Traffic File compile, if I install a new package for the same Airline. Or if say two Airlines have merged, and I install the merged Airline package, i.e. un select the now defunct Airlines that merged to make the new Airline from the Ulitmate Traffic Airline Compile menu when Compiling, and also If an Airline has changed i.e. AIR 2000 became First Choice. I would unselect AIR 2000 from "Ulitmate Traffic" Traffic File compilation, before installing the First Choice AI Traffic package, which I have from WOAI. And the same applies with other Airlines. So I don't just overload FS2004 with Traffic I carefully manage it. Also this deletion of AI Aircraft on approach, happens even when I have disabled General Aviation Traffic. Any help and information you could give me would be much appreciated. I.e. could you suggest what I could edit in it's Schedule, to maybe prevent the disappearing from happening ? I have a version of the Freeware Program AI Flightplanner, which I use for editing AI Traffic Flightplans Best Regards Eddie Winch

I have never used AI smooth or AI flight planner the only thing I have ever used is World Of AI packages and do not install to many of them
I would suggest that if you can print out the flight plans that you go over them with a fine tooth comb. I have never heard of AI aircraft being deleted if forced to go around more than three times. But I am not a big user of AI aircraft and only have a few plans to make it look more realistic. Besides that AI traffic puts a strain on FS2004 or any FS program.
The only safe way of insuring of having no issues with AI is to limit the amount of AI flight plans you install. Like an old saying too many cooks just clutters up the kitchen and does not mean the food is any better.
I am a firm believer in the KISS method Keep It Simple Stupid . But I know a lot of people like the use of AI flight plans so It is your choice.
But like I said the more plans you install the better the odds of disappearing aircraft. This is the main cause for that.
