FS9 random elevator kick down

Postby whirlwind 10 » Sun Sep 27, 2015 8:01 am

I recently deleted FS9 in the process of cleaning my pc up, in between reinstalling I received a load of updates from Microsoft ,I normally have auto updates switched of. I have windows 7 64bit, FS9 would not open, this is with Disc 4 inserted. As I normally have the no disc crack loaded I reloaded the crack and FS9 Opened OK I had many small issues that needed sorting. I then did a check ride in a Cessna 172 as I accelerated down the runway I experienced I sudden elevator kick down I pulled the yoke back and continued to climb out after about 30 seconds the same thing happened I have checked this out with other A/C same thing. I use a Saitek pro flight yoke ,I have recalibrated no change, FSX works 100% . I seems that these updates are associated with windows 10 which I do not have installed and don't want. Any clues why I am getting this elevator kick down?

It may be an intermittent connection problem inside your yoke. If it is making good contact during calibration, it will work just fine. My Cyborg X had a similar problem, but with the rudder axis.

If you have multiple controllers plugged in to your PC, unplug what you are not using and try it.
If it still occurs, I would disable and/or unplug ALL controllers. Use the keyboard to take off and see if it still happens regardless if there is no issue in FSX.
You want to first be certain where the problem is coming from. Eliminate any controller possibilities completely.

Thanks for the replies, I have tried all that was suggested I even dug out an old joy stick. My conclusions ,the old joy stick and my Saitek yoke worked 100% in FSX with no problems, also if I had a connection problem wouldn't that have the same effect on FS9 and FSX ? , any way I still have the kick down with Yoke and Joystick in FS9. Further research via the internet has shown that many flight simmers are up in arms with Microsoft about FS9 problems after Microsoft updates , so I don't know I must say I am a bit hacked off as I have quite a few add on aircraft for FS9 which did not come cheap.

Make sure you have completely ruled out the controllers. You can easily have FSX working as you described but it doesn't mean FS9 will be the same. I installed an old racing game just a couple of weeks ago. After install the accelerator didn't work correctly. I unplugged the joystick, accelerator then worked on my wheel controller. I replugged in the joystick and the accelerator continued to work and now the game works with everything plugged in. It's quite common for things like this to occur. If it's specifically an update causing the issue, you should find many people screaming over the same problem. If not, you may be looking in the wrong area. I've had something similar to what you described before and it was tracked back to controller drivers.
For reference, I'm using a Saitek X-52 with a Win 7 system with all updates installed except for the one that causes FS not to load and everything is working fine.

A common problem with all joysticks or flight yokes is the fact they all use what is called a variable resistor otherwise know as a potentiometer depending upon how well they are made they will go bad at some point in time. The reason is the design of the device it uses a metal wiper to go across a strip of carbon or some other material and it depends on pressure to keep contact with the strip. After a while the metal will loose its ability to keep contact and this creates problems. Remember the old radios after a while the volume control would sound scratchy and make noises as you turned it. The reason is what I just stated. About all you can do is to try to keep the device clean. Of course you can replace the device if you are willing and know what you are doing. But some of these devices are not that accessible. They make what is called a precision potentiometer but they are not cheap but will last longer than the regular one. <<v
