Microsoft FS2004 Piper Cub Liveries

Postby Garry » Fri Sep 04, 2015 6:45 am

Hi Good People,

Long time since my last post on the forums - Had some major health issues for a while but getting over them after several months of rest and recuperation.

I am now at a stage in my recovery that Edward and I thought it was time for a bit of light duties starting off with some repaints of the Default Microsoft FS2004 Piper Cub J-3 aircraft.

A sad little aircraft for FS2004 that was an important aircraft in aviation history but seems to have lacked a bucket or repaints.

After setting up a blank master and doing some tests I discovered why this aircraft has a lack of repaints - the texture mappings are some of the poorest I have ever encountered. Mirror Mappings everywhere - and lots of it sloppy, distortions and stretched areas to fit poorly cut areas - lots of them inverted, stretched or flipped and even worse no real logic to some of the mappings.

Here is an image of what I had to work with as a basis for my repaints for this girl:

As you can see, this mapping makes repainting this girl extremely limiting - a real challenge to give her a bit of vibrancy and suitable eye candy to make her a nice visual flying model.

We started off the repaint project with just a few liveries in mind - then a couple more, and some more - decided to round it off at 15 then 18 then 20 - we stopped there :D

Anyway, the 20 FREE liveries are now available for your flight sim entertainment and hopefully enjoyment - Surf to http://www.ford-tri-motor.net Click on the Other Aircraft Button and follow the link to the Piper Cub J-3 repaints.

Regards

Garry and Edward

Hi Good People,

The Piper Cub liveries are being downloaded at a high rate - great stuff - good to see the aircraft have a bit of a revival in FS2004. :D

Therefore, Edwards and I decided to add an additional 6 pack of liveries:

A bit of bling for the Emma Field livery and an additional 5 military liveries. All of course repainted to match the vagaries of the texture mappings and therefore not accurate detailed textures, but at least some more meaningful eye candy for this girl in the sim for your entertainment.

Regards and happy simming

Garry and Edward - your Ford Tri-Motor Project Team.

Hello Garry,

Geez.. I'm sorry to hear about your recent medical issues. I'm very glad though that you are doing better my friend.

Ain't that something about the Piper J3, you do all those repaints on all those complicated aircraft models, and
it's the tiny little J3 Cub, at just over 10 Megabites, that gives ya a challenge. .. THANKS MICROSOFT!! .. :D

Thank you Garry and Edward.. she looks fantastic!

Thanks mate for your reply and concerns re my health - winning the battle now as every day is a better day than the previous one.

Yep the little Microsoft Default Piper Cub has certainly been a great challenge to get me back into the groove for repaints - getting stuck into a hard one will no doubt make any future repaints for other aircraft seem easy

A couple more liveries for the Piper Cub have been added to the Ford Project web site - two different styles for Bush Flying Unlimited and a little Aircraft Racer style - called it Fas-N-8 - as this aircraft model and texture mappings were indeed fascinating to work with.

<<q Hello Garry, I have been a big downloader of textures there at your Ford Project since quite a while crocodile. When will there be a download for that Racer Fas-N-8? Is says something about bugging Edward, but you may know when availability will be. So far, I was installing in my Golden Wings version of FS9, those 6 last versions from Sept 8 and visited this forum by coincidence. Glad to know you are recovering from an Atack of the Bunch (the bunch of solar orbits!! as we say in México) it hapens to all of us young oldies. ABRAZOS

AHHHHH - that's what causes our medical problems - Solar Orbits - the longer you stay on the planet the sicker you get :o

As for the couple of liveries that you have to "annoy" Edward about - Edward is armed and ready to send the texture sets if you send an e-mail to him - baring sleep periods they will be prompt responses.

These "Request for textures" are a small trial of download methodologies we are tinkering with - using counters is good - however, many visitors do mass downloads of what is new and then use only a couple of what they have downloaded. We cover a broad stream of aircraft and a vast volume of themes for repaints and it is not quiet clear to us what is on the mark and what is wasted effort.

So by all means - click on the Email Edward link and shoot off your requests - in most cases the response will be quick and the file sizes are reasonably small.

I will update the web site to make it clear that these liveries are "Available Now"

Regards mate.

Garry I apologize for not answering before, but my Lap had to recover the Vista because of hard disc age: good thing is, with this treatment it got rejuvenated!! Everything in Vista's system (actualizations my...god!!) & both FS 2004's (Golden & Silver Wings, I like the 30's & 50's) had to be reinstalled, reconfigured & redownloaded. Still at it when I remember some forgoten must have. And then new things have apeared too. I will send a message to Edward & Muchas Gracias!!
