removal of generic bridges from original program

Postby orenda14 » Mon Jan 12, 2015 11:38 pm

Some years ago a gentleman from this area created a program for " Halifax Harbor Bridges", they are a very good recreation of the actual bridges and in the right place, problem is the very unrealistic bridges are still in the original program scenery and are really cruddy, does anyone have any idea how I may remove them, thanks

What you have to do here is to find the BGL files that these are created from and remove them. This sounds easy but in reality it is not.
In your case look and see if you can find the names of the files in this program the original ones should have a name somewhat similar.
It can be difficult to locate the offending BGL files. One way is to start turning off a section of scenery one at a time and check to see if the bridges are gone. This could be time consuming or you might get lucky. But once you find the scenery all you have to do is to remove the BGL files.

Use a program such as Sbuilder, or any other scenery modification application that can generate exclusion polygons, to create exclusion polygons over the ugly default bridges. Make the exclusion polygon and tag it to exclude "extrusion bridge". Compile the bgl and place it together with your bridge scenery objects in a single scenery area folder. This will help ensure the extrusion excludes get loaded with your new bridges at the same time.

This is another way of doing the same thing but some people do not feel comfortable trying to figure out excludes as you have to know the latitude and longitude to erase the undesirable scenery. And if you do not get it right it can cause undesirable effects such as having half a bridge or all kinds of crazy things. This is why I did not suggest this method. It works but like I said you have to know what you are doing.
I had to do something similar to remove a VOR building from the middle of a runway in FS9. It was a little tricky trying to figure out the coordinates but I managed and it worked like a champ.

I think you've mis-interpretted what the OP wants...
He wants the addon bridges to remain, and default bridges to go away.

There are no bgl files associated with the default bridges. The method I have described above is thecorrect way to go about doing what the OP asked.

And the good scenery modding packages utilize sim connect so you can open fs while working and use your plane in slew mode for position in the scenery package. Difficult or not, this is how its done...
