HJG DC-8 panel question

Postby tinpusher » Sun Dec 07, 2014 4:14 pm

Hi all!
Recently I downloaded HJG's DC 8-30, 50, 63 and 73 models, sounds, textures and panels as per instructions.
The -30 and -50 are just fine, however I cannot get any panel to show in the -63 and -73.
I tried all possible tricks to no avail.
Anyone familiar with this phenomenon?

Thanks,
Tin

You need to check each aircraft's PANEL folder and see what is in it.
You should see a panel.cfg file. If you look in the panel folder of any default aircraft you will see what the folder should have.
Odds are that the Panel folder is either blank: Not there at all or it refers to a aircraft that you do not have.
If you see a line that looks like Alias="B747-200" for example make sure you have that aircraft.
If the Panel folder is missing than this aircraft is meant to be used as AI and not to be flown.
Trust me you do not want to attempt to fly a aircraft that was designed for AI it will not work very well at all. Ai aircraft was never made to actually fly.
The AIR files on these are the pits and the graphics and texture are poor at best.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for your quick reply.
The a/c are 'flyable' versions, not AI.

As I mentioned in my original post the -30, -50, -63 and -73 were all installed together.
de -30 and -50 panels are showing, however the -63 and -73 are blank (global view).

I followed instructions as per ''read me'' and aliased all four a/c panels to FSFS like this:
[fltsim]
alias=fsfsconv\panel.DC8-62. (The -62 panel is the same as -63).

After repeated zero succes I simply copied the entire contents of the -63 and -73 panel folders in FSFS to the applicable a/c panel folders, with the same negative result.

You can imagine that this is quite puzzling for me. I read and re-read the a/c's and panel's cfg's, compared those to the -30 and -50, but could not find any discrepancies.

Any suggestions??

Thanks and regards,
Ron

I've tried the -63 and -73 panels & both work as advertised. I can't think why they don't work for you. I suspect it's something simple as these things usually are.
The only problem I encountered was that the Panel.cfg files of the DC-8 Base Packs I tried were configured as Read-only. I had to change this before I could edit them.

Note: There are two version of each panel. I tried the DC-8-62/63 (INS) & DC-8-72/73

Hi Hagar,
I will try your solution and let you know the results.
Think I will try the INS version this time.
Meanwhile I copied the -50 panel into the -63 pnl folder; also no show.
What strikes me is: there are two cfg's in the 63 pnl folder, a pnl.cfg and a pnl62.cfg.
Should one of them be deleted?

Hagar you are the man!
I followed your advice, installed the INS version, unticked the read only in the .cfg and now I have a working panel!
Thank you.

Jetranger here

my experience with many HJG Jet Aircraft has been good and I have several of their Jetliners in my FSX Gold / Acceleration.

as per the Read Me file instructions with each aircraft,,,,,,,,,,

read it carefully,,,, you almost always have to as per instructions - change both the PANEL CFG File names , it clearly states so in the instructions -

as I recall,,, you have to change the 2004 and the FSX file names of the Panel CFG File,

this is where some have a lot of problems and mis understanding

*** FS2004 users) Proceed to step 4.
(FSX users) Enter the folder "PANEL.B707-138B", and - "rename" - "panel.cfg" to "panel_fs2004.cfg", then - "panel_fsx.cfg" to "panel.cfg".

the above is very important with about ALL HJG Jetliners , very important if you want them to show correctly !!

simple procedure really,, once you learn the in & outs of it and get used to it.

I have some of their Boeing 707's
and 727's
Convair 880 & 990 jetliners

as well as their DC 8's

Jetranger - with around 4,900 Aircraft injected into my FSX Gold / Acceleration  :o

Well Jet,
Today I learned the lesson..........
There are several HJG a/c in my FS9 inventory: Convairs, Lockheen 1011, almost the entire Boeing range they offer and Douglas DC8 and DC9.
Never before experienced problems while installing, until now concerning the -63/73 panel. Changing the .cfg has been done; I deleted the FSX config as per instructions.
Problem solved however...
Thanks for all your help,
Regards,
