Terrain Mesh for FS2004

Postby sappie » Mon Sep 15, 2014 1:44 am

Hi to all Simviation friends,

Yes it is the old man again. I needs advise how to install terrain mesh.

I have downloaded all the files for "Full Global FS2004 SRTM Terrain Mesh" available from Simviation.

Where must I copy the BGL file to. The terrain mesh wash created before Win 7. The Read me instructions is not very clear for me. My OR is Win 7 with FS2004.

I try to contact Stephen Rothlisberger, the creator. I think he is the creator of the Full Global Terrain Mesh. Up to date no reply was received from him.

I will be pleased if one of the experts on terrain mesh can assist me.

Thank you.

Sappie.

Hi

Here is the page hosting the files you are referring to

The folder system in all windows versions is pretty much the same and you can right click inside any folder to create a new folder.

The install seems to be about creating folders and moving the files into the folders. - Bit fidgety but if you follow it step by step it is fairly easy.

There is also another tutorial listed on that page

That might make it easier -- I think it looks as good as anyone could explain here.

I think I can remember what I used to do to prevent confusion, and allow removal of a particular Mesh File if it was giving trouble...

Create a Folder, and name it to identify the particular area covered...
Create another Folder within it, and name it "scenery"...
Insert the required .bgl file in the "scenery" Folder...

Drag the named mesh Folder into the FS2004/FSX add-on scenery Folder...

Add/Insert it in the FS 2004/FSX Add-on scenery Library within the Sim in the usual way...

Restart the Sim!

I like to keep the various named, preferred areas separate, to allow for deletion, in the event of scenery problems!

I just install my usual, individual Areas in the srtm mesh list which I regularly use, or purchase and install "FS Global" on a CD/DVD to cover the whole World in one go!...For FS 2004...>>> http://www.fly2pilots.com/cms/Ui/Pages/ ... fff3874c8f

..and for FSX...>>> https://fullterrain.com/

Good day Pete and Fozzer.

Thank you for your assistance and links supplied to put me on the right track to open and install the "Full Global FS2004 SRTM Terrain Mesh for FS2004. All I can say is that it is a big task.

Fozzer, all my software wrt scenery, etc must be ordered from abroad. The transportation cost is sometimes 4 times more than the price of the software.

With the weak ZA Rand against the Euro, British Pound and the US$ it is not feasible to order any soft or hardware now.

Once again thank you for the ADVISE.

Hi Sappi,
If your are in South Africa & that's your flying turf, I'm sure you must have looked at the free Aeroworx scenery & mesh?
I'm in Cape Town & we use it at our Virtual Flying Club (Cape Virtual) & in our 2x simulators (the Impala & the Shackleton).

Regards,
Robin

As with all Payware Flight Sim add-ons, it is always preferable to to purchase the CD/DVD versions, if possible, for a fast and trouble-free installation....
...also useful for re-installation!

Failing that, with the complete SRTM scenery mesh, which is such a massive file....

..I tend to ONLY download and install the areas which I am particularly interested in flying....and ignore the rest!

Small files, and quickly installed!

That's what I did in the past with my FS 2002/FS 2004, regarding the Sim V SRTM Mesh... ;) ...!

(Failing any other option, always worth installing various areas!).... ;) ....!
