Homemade airport and PMDG FMC

Postby stephan » Sat Sep 06, 2014 5:46 pm

Howdy once again.Got something here a bit more technical than my usual questions.
I have FS9 (FS 2004)
I also have the PMDG 747-400/F . Love them both!
I recently created an airport with the ICAO of KLIQ using the one of the more popular airport creation tools.
Stock airports that I modify show up fine when I enter a flight plan into my FMC on the PMDG 747.
HOWEVER, the airport I created from scratch shows as "NOT IN DATABASE" on my FMC when I try to enter a flight plan to or from it.
I can understand why this happens, but my question is how do I get the information of my homemade airport into the database for the PMDG FMC?
I can imagine the answer to this particular problem may be a bit more that I can handle. But it's worth a try as my new airport is a beauty...
and I want it accessible by my flight planning on the FMC.Thanks folks, solution rendered or not.

The problem here is the out of date database
You have to remember that FS9 is very old and the Navigation database is the same age so new airports will not show up on a FMC.
Check out the link below this is one way of keeping your database up to date. This is not free.

Some payware aircraft that have a FMC will have updated database as part of the payware package.Occasionally you can find updates at other places as well

Although what you state is "true", it does not consider that the airport in question in "homemade". I sincerely doubt that paying for a commercial database update is going to include HIS airport.

Thus, the problem is NOT an out of date database, but rather a problem of getting his FMC to recognize a non-standard airport. I don't know if this is possible.

After doing a Google search for 'navigraph data', I came across this site; this may be what you're looking for:

Read the Description, and see if this will do the trick for you, Stephan!

He said he created his own HOMEMADE airport with a FICTICIOUS airport code. Am I missing something? How in the world is a standard flight sim database (free or commercial) EVER going to include his homemade airport?

I never said.or meant that I was looking for a ready made database for my home made airport. I know a homemade airport wont show without being entered to the database somehow, whether there is a program that will do that,ie., modify my existing database by adding my additional/homemade airport,...or if anyone knew how one would go about editing the existing database by hand.. I needed to know if there was a way I could cure the problem of my airport not showing up in my database. That includes the possibility of editing the database by hand, and entering the required info into the database so my airport would then show up in the FMC.Some which I have stated here,is redundant,I know...but at least this way some will be clear as to my intentions and that I am not expecting my airport to somehow appear magically on a new download, hehehe. Thanks guys.I really appreciate the searching some have done to help me with an answer. In my thinking, hand editing my database for my PMDG 747 FMC will be the only way it can be done,if,and, again, there is a program that will edit in the info I give it. All in all, until I am informed of a way to edit my database,I will remain stuck, and will have to fly blindly to it.

Sorry I missed the fact that this was a fictions airport.
Below is a sample of FMC entries
If I am not mistaken here what you will need to do is to add the airport you created you will need the longitude and latitude and the name of the airport
But before you do anything BACKUP the folder and put it some place safe.
Palmer Station NHG NDB -64.774444 -64.069444160.00N
Marambio MBI VORD-64.235000 -56.620000117.90H
Marambio MBI NDB -64.231667 -56.600000330.00N

Thanks Gary!! I will sure give it a try. I'll be sure to come back with word on the results. If it works,I am sure there are others who fly PMDG ac and make their own airports, and are dealing with the same headache.A solution to this annoying problem sure would be a moral booster...especially when flying such a great ac and looking forward to landing at ones own airport. Thanks again...and thanks to all who took the time to consider a solution to this problem. This forum,...the folks in it,are one of several reasons I love Simviation.Best sim site on the web.
