Ford-Project New Aircraft Under Consideration

Hi Good People,

Edward and I are considering adding a new "Support" aircraft for use in the Ford Tri-Motor Project.

The FS2004 De Havilland DH.91 Albatross by Jens B. Kristensen.

This aircraft fits within our era specific range and would be a great addition to the overall impact of the Ford Tri-Motor Project.

Below are some screenshots of some tinkering with liveries for this girl. I know she is a fully wooden aircraft - but I, of course, did some tinkering with some full metal skin versions - just to see how they would come out.












However, before we get stuck into integrating this girl into the project there are two things that need to be addressed:

(1) I have been trying to get in touch with Jens to seek his consent for us to use his aircraft for the Project but have had no response so far. Without his consent then we cannot proceed with the aircraft and a package of liveries for her. If anyone knows a more current e-mail for Jens then please let me know so that I may contact him.

(2) If consent is forthcoming then we need to know if there is interest out there for us to put in the time and effort to create a batch of era specific liveries for this girl. Therefore we request that you let us know your opinion via this forum or via e-mails to either Edward or I - your are also welcome to suggest a livery for inclusion in the suite.

those are nice pix and I really like the plane.

it maybee just my opinion but I think you should'nt use the metal textures on a wooden aircraft.
(except for metal parts like landing gear, prop spinners, window trim, control surface hinges, etc.)
the real flight sim enthusiest would be more interested in historical accuracy over eye candy.
I do hope you get to procede with the project

This classic de Havilland aircraft unfortunately had a very limited production run. Due to WWII de Havilland had to focus their all wooden aircraft construction resources on the Mosquito aircraft. After the war aircraft technology had dynamically moved on from the wooden aircraft to the metal aircraft so the DH91 was never continued.

The Ford Project focus is on the 1930's era and I think that the DH91 would have been a much greater success if she had been allowed to continue production of the aircraft - she would have undoubtedly been used globally as a top level (for her time) aircraft by many burgening airlines of the era.

Totally concur on the Metal effects - the Ford Project often works on "what if" concepts for many historical aircraft and develops period specific liveries - but a couple of eye candy girls are always produced for the "not so serious" simmers to enjoy.

Personally, I'd like to see some period specific US Airline liveries for the DH.91, along with a 'Plain Jane', US Civil registration.

The Albatross would be a great addition to my - and everyones - hangar, and your typical mix of historical plausible and eye-candy repaints would be great.

I believe there is already an FSX version of the DH91 by Jens back in 2010. He posted it to several of the major sites - so possibly a version here at simviation.com. I believe that it was released as DH91_V3X.zip

However, the Ford Project is focussed on FS2004 for a plethora of reasons therefore, all of the project development for this aircraft will will be for the FS2004 version.

Textures may or may not work for the FSX versions - not tested but I do know that the FS2004 version configuration files for the aircraft have some issues with some of the tweaks we are doing to the aircraft.

I have Jens' v3 but it's slightly dated and I was hoping your project would not only provide some great liveries but possibly upgrade the VC. Jens is a pretty busy guy and I thought this might help him out.

For the sake of a tinker I have created a Wooden Plank version of the DH91 - this should make it clear to the purists out there that she is a totally wooden aircraft.



Scrubbed up pretty good in FS2004 even if I do say so myself
