New and confused!!!

Adding Aircraft Traffic, airport gates, etc, to your Sim - AFCAD, TTools, Project AI, AI Aircraft, etc

New and confused!!!

Postby Basteward » Fri Aug 28, 2009 5:08 pm

Hey all im not the most technical person in the world so pls bare with me!!

Right

I have vista on my pc and have been using flight fx for  a while! When buying new aircraft and traffic on cd rom the system performed fine. I have now become a member with simvation and want to download further models and liveries for my aircraft and I am having a nightmare!!

I downloaded service pack 1 & 2 for fsx and then had to uninstall as the pc's graphics card was not good enough to support or so it said.

I have since tried to follow the instructions to install the 747 additional liveries as I have the aircraft already and am still not succeeding I am doing everything it says in the help boxes!

I am ready to scream!

Is it vista that is the problem???

Thanks >:(
If your gonna do it do it properly!

Welcome to SimV,

If you've properly installed the texture folders and have made the aircaft.cfg edits and things are not working, you may indeed be up against Vista's UAC.

Here is a recent topic that addresses the problem and solutions.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

make sure that Vista's UAC is turned OFF so that you can save things in NOTEPAD.

you have your DEFAULT 747, and a TEXTURE (repaint) for that craft that you want to add.

put the TEXTURE.X folder inside the DEFAULT 747 folder in SIMOBJECTS / AIRPLANES

now open the DEFAULT 747.cfg using NOTEPAD, and copy/paste the following into the .cfg. after you have made modifications to THIS entry, save the file and then go look in your FSX Select Aircraft to see if it shows up.

I think the best way to do this is for you to choose a file you wish to install & tell us where it's posted. We need the file description & number of the page it's posted on. Then perhaps someone (ideally with both FSX & Vista) can download the file & walk you through it with the exact details for that specific repaint. Unfortunately I don't have FSX myself but this is the method that worked well for me over the last ten years of helping people with earlier versions of FS.

Is it vista that is the problem???

Vista can complicate things but that is a separate issue. It would help to know what the exact problem is. The most common one when adding repaints is Vista not allowing changes to be saved in Aircraft.cfg files. There are various ways of overcoming this.

ok to get the 747 to work i downloaded 26 new textures from simivation. I saved them into the new folder i made texture copy. I then went into the default cfg and added them and changed all the numbers and it still does not work. I will try to post screen shots of what i have done but struggling to copy and paste them to then put them on here so that u can see what i have done.

Re: New and confused!!!

Postby Hagar » Thu Sep 03, 2009 4:39 pm

OK, that's enough. LOL

First of all there's no point in adding more entries to Aircraft.cfg if the first one doesn't work.

Try changing the new [fltsim.x] entries to the next numbers in sequence. For example, the entry following [fltsim.6] should be [fltsim.7]

Then if you've installed the corresponding textures correctly they should work as advertised.

ok guys sorry for the long stream of posts but this is what i have on the screen. I have changed all the numbers of the textures and then saved but it seems the numbers changed again. i will check the original cfg though.

Also i have tried all of the things like turning off the uac and changing admin rights for me and notepad.

I will try hagars suggestion and come back. but if you spot anything in the files i have posted pls let me know!

Thanks
If your gonna do it do it properly!
