Hi. Option 3 would be to remove them from the Select Aircraft menu.

Download AirEd from the Utilities section. http://www.simviation.com/fsutilities_gen2.htm

Open the AIR files of your AI aircraft in AirEd & change the Aircraft Type from 0 to 2.

What's happening, is that AI aircraft are showing up in you aircraft seliction list. You don't want to delete anything, but if you'd like, you can use a tool called "Aired" to make it so those AI models are not on that list. (There is usually a way to add a panel or other parts to those models to make them flyable, but I can't help you there.)

Download AirEd and use it to open the .air file of one of the offending AI aircraft models.

Look for entry number 105 (105 Aircraft Type=) and change the type number from "2" to "0", and save it. The next time you start your sim, that AI model should no longer be on the list.

Hope this helps. :)

I think I confused myself and you - I downloaded the Airlines, not the specific aircraft. And I can't make heads or tails from the AirEd program. I'm still lost!

Which airlines? I imagine the aircraft were included in the package.

AirEd is not difficult to use. It's a standalone application which will run from anywhere on your PC. You need to identify the aircraft before editing the AIR files.

When you download a package from World of AI, or project AI, it will install the airline and flightplans but also the actual aircraft that you can see flying around. This is what is showing up in your aircraft list. They can be made flyable i believe with a little editing, or as previously mentioned they can be removed with a utility.
Personally i just ignore them and try and remember which ones are ai and which ones are aircraft ive downloaded to fly ;)

Hope this clears up a little confusion :)

Seems I have a system problem. I couldn't open the AIR file in Aired. I got an error message telling me that the AIR file is damaged. So, until I get that fixed, I'll live with the inconvenience. Thanks to all for your suggestions and help. :)

I suspect you have Adobe AIR installed. This associates itself with all files with the .air extension & will give this error message if you double-click on FS AIR files.

You should be able to open the AIR files from within AirEd. Double-click on AirEd.exe to run it. Then click File/Open & navigate to the file you want to open in the usual way.

...mmm....yes if Hagar is right then we have discussed this before...(brown paper parcels etc ;D)

I find the best way is to open AirEd and under the Special tab select "Set AirEd for air files"...that way all your .air files will have a sweet little AirEd icon and double clicking them will open the file in AirEd........

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about that option. Not sure if it works in this case as Adobe AIR changes the file type of all files with the .air extension to an Installer Package.

I tried everything I could think of but couldn't find any way of changing it back without uninstalling Adobe AIR. I'm not about to reinstall it to find out. I have no idea what it's used for anyway. I do know it's a blasted nuisance. >:(

JimmyJohnHenry has reached the end of his string. Nothing seems to work. I have downloaded AirEd and it presently resides in my Downloads folder on my desktop. Should I place it somewhere else? When I open it and get to and click the "Special" tab, and then select "Set AirEd for Air files", nothing seems to happen. What's my next step besides fagedaboutit??  :-/

Oh yes, and all my .air files are as Hagar shows: little brown packages that won't let me do anything.

ive never used aired before or even had it installed but i was curious about this problem so i downloaded it.

All of my .air files were previously just blank as they had no programme assigned to them so when i went to open them i simply right clicked one of them, went to open/open with>select programme from list>browse> then browsed to where i had dowloaded air ed to, ticked the box that said use this programme for all .air files and hey presto, all my .air files work through air ed.

Unfortunately tho, my .air files were never little brown parcels so all this could be completely useless but worth a try none the less if you havent allready.

good luck

It says in the aired documentation that aired can reside anywhere and work, however they recommend that it is in the aircraft folder, but purely for convenience i believe.
