How do I get the AI aircraft to show liveries that I've downloaded, like Japan Air, Philippine Air, etc.?

You need to be just a little more specific on the request, ;)
Are you refering to the default AI planes? And the liveries that you have downloaded, are they for AI or your default aircraft?
Or have you downloaded new AI packages and want to change those?

It won't be a problem helping you, we just need a little more info. :)

Yes, the default AI planes, like the 747-400 etc. The liveries I have are in my default aircraft folders, but are the AI aircraft in a completely different folder than the flyable aircraft?

No, they use the same. The best way is to replace the default liveries with the repaints so that you don't even have the default ones anymore. The traffic file has aircraft listed by it's" title=" line, so since you have added new paints, and therefore higher numbers that are not in the traffic file, it is not using them. But if you replace the default paintschemes using the new repaints, you will see those liveries everywhere that the default AI planes go to.
I did this same thing with my default aircraft and now I never run into an Orbit or Pacific airlines ever. ;)

Can I not edit the traffic file to put the extra [flightsim.xx] numbers in?

You can if you know what to do, I'm just a little on the lazy side ;D
You would also need to add all of the flight plan info for each plane, for everywhere you want them to fly to. ;) Not a huge task if you only want them in a certain area, but certainly a monumental task to have them be everywhere in the world. :o

I usually fly around Japan Korea and the Philippines, so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out....I hope.

...and the trafficAircraft.bgl file killed my Notepad....

so you replace [fltsim.0] with [flightsim.xx] or you just put a low value number there?

You will need TTools, available in the simv utilites section. And the airport codes for all the airports you want to have the AI flying to.
Read all the documentation that comes with TTools, it's pretty easy to figure out.

Be aware, that if an airport does not have enough gates & parking to accomodate your new entries, they will not show up. Or will land and then disappear on the taxiway.

[glow=yellow,2,300]This is part of the flightsim section of my default 747 in FSX, notice there is no default paint schemes remaining, all of my commercial jets are this way, at first it was for the AI purpose, then I just got around to installing all of the PAI packs and I removed the default AI traffic file altogether, much easier on frames to run the addon traffic at higher settings. ;)[/glow]

I think I'll just go with replacing the originals :P

Except I'm having to make my own repaints on some, since no one makes any Japan Air repaints for the 737, and no Korean Air repaints for either the 747 or 737.  >:(

I tried reworking the aircraft.cfg file, replacing the 3 main airlines with add-on textures, but the only aircraft that would appear were all Airbuses and CRJ700s. I'd like to edit the traffic file and get rid of all AI aircraft except the 737 and 747, but SimV isn't letting me download TTools.

Hey,
As another method of getting ai, have you tried world of AI or project ai, i notice that WOAI has both japan air (both cargo and passenger) and korean air packages available for download, along with some other airlines from that area. then its just a case of downloading the package, installing it using the WOAI installer, and away you go with a populated sky ;)

but SimV isn't letting me download TTools.
Hopefully you'll get it downloaded. The help document (Readme.htm) is necessary when editing traffic files.
