Quick World of AI Rookie Questions

Hey all, so I come to this forum because I haven't been impressed by the FSX default traffic (or lack there of at 100% settings)...

I'm considering installing World of AI, but I had some basic questions, and I'd appreciate any feedback you have.

1.  Will World of AI slow down FSX excessively?
2.  Have there been any cases of installing World of AI and not being able to run FSX or having to reinstall.
3.  What will the installer "WOAINS24.zip" actually do?  Will it give me more complex traffic settings?

All in all I'm just wondering if anyone has considered World of AI to be more trouble than its worth?  I don't want to start messing around with it only to find that it makes me have problems.

Thanks all!

First of all, keep in mind here as you read this that I run FS2004... so I cannot say if it is compatible or works as well with FSX.

In fs2004, compared to the default traffic files......no contest.

John... thanks so much for the response...

I am surprised at it though...

First... I'll have to refer you to another thread I posted entitled Traffic for Dummies (a follow up to this)... without completely repeating everything...  I basically rant on how World of AI only put the airplanes at the gates... and not a single one of them ever moved (taxi or air).  ATC never said "Jet Blue," or "United" because not a one of them moved!  I also go on to explain some interesting things I noticed about the standard FSX traffic settings.

So I'm either completely missing something big about setting up / installing WOAI... or simply doesn't really work in FSX...

Lastly... I will add that (again see Traffic for Dummies), that I did get traffic working to a satisfactory level using the standard FSX traffic settings (also by uninstalling WOAI)... and that hearing "Orbit" & "Soar" doesnt really bother me that much... theyre just names.  But I will say that I do find the paint jobs associated with them kinda lame...

How long did you wait?....if they're there they will eventually depart.

Every ai aircraft is on a fixed schedule (route, departure and arrival time), so if parked it will remain parked until it's next departure time. If an ai flight is not scheduled to depart for 2 hours, it won't.

WOAI does work with FSX, with one 'gottcha'. WOAI 'traffic*.bgl' files are in FS2004 format. While they do work, using FS2004 traffic files in FSX will disable the FSX default aircraft (airlines and ga) and boat traffic. This may be the cause for your observation, in an earlier post, that you saw less traffic with WOAI packages installed.

The solution, if you want to have the default traffic and WOAI, is to convert the WOAI traffic files to FSX format. You can do this with AIFPC by Peter van der Veen. The d'load link is in message #57.

Is there any quick way that you can check the departure times or hurry them up so you don't have to wait there forever for something to happen? Sorry if it is a lame question but it does get boring just sitting there for something to happen.

You're supposed to be FLYING! This is a FLIGHT simulator, not a 'Let's go to the airport and watch the big planes takeoff' simulator.

You will want to install AISmooth also (don't know it it works with FSX) if you do this....... it puts AI into holding patterns if things get too crazy.

Where is AISmooth from?

Google 'aismooth fsx'.

Aismooth v1.20 is for FSX.

I've just got the Flight Sim X and have to admit the ground traffic is a bit poor. I also got fed up with Orbit and World Travel etc so I removed their menus in the Aircraft Folder and replaced them with other carriers I downloaded which seems to have livened things up alot (if you don't look to closely at the matching reg numbers) however, and for what ever reason, all the 747's are white about 99% of the time. I think this maybe a default issue as it continues even when I reinstalled everthing, or have I missed something?

All of the textures are defined in the trafficaircraft.bgl.  When you decompile it, there is an aircraft.txt file.  Open that and it has a list of the aircraft next to there corresponding AC# for the flightplan.  All you have to do is figure out what paint # goes to what texture and change it in that txt file, save it, and compile it back to the FS scenery folder.
