AI Helicopter Codes

Hey guys, I'm doing a few mods with AFCAD at some (FS9) airports I frequent. I have been able to relabel all of my parking spots and have assigned certain aircraft for those spots. I've noticed that Traffic 2005 will put an R 44 on an unassigned small aircraft spot at an airport that has helo pads, which is fine by me. I'm glad to see some choppers out and about, but I have not been able to figure out how to get AFCAD to recognize the helo pads it let put there in the first place, so I can number them and assign choppers to those pads. Any knowledge or insights would be much appreciated. Thanx, Dave

Not to sound rude or anything, I think it's pointless to have chopper traffic in FS...It looks completely unreal as it taxis to the runway...It's fine if it's a wheeled helo like an old Mil or something, but JetRangers and all, with their skids, they should be going nowhere but straight up...But yes, I do agree, it is rather nice to see them just sitting there

Yeah that's what I was kind of hoping for. I figured the skidded choppers would land/take off directly off of the pads. I'll admit that I really don't know how real life chopper operations run. I've seen the big wheeled helos taxiing like fixed wings, but I've also seen them get clearance to land/take off directly to the pad. When I was in the military we'd get tossed out of Chinooks, Sea Stallions, and Super Stallions every once in a while. I noticed that if they were actually going somewhere that they just took off from where they were at, but if they were just moving from here to there they would just taxi like a fixed wing. I never got to fly in a Huey, but I noticed that if they were just moving from here to there, they'd just hover a foot or two off the deck and like the wheeled helos, if they were going somewhere, they would just land/take off from where they were at. I was a infantry guy, so I really didn't get to hang out with the "wingers". We were just grateful to get a ride so we didn't have to hump to wherever we needed to be, which didn't happen too often. But, anyway, I figured if I designed sections for choppers to operate at these particular airports, that they would actually operate there, but I do realize this IS a flight Simulator :P Semper Fi, Dave

AI Helos will act like fixed wings. always. :P
On the other hand, I was Cleavland outside of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, watching GA come in the Beuford Airport, and I saw a helo come in on approach to RWY 27 (I think) like a fixed wing, land on the runway like a helo, then taxi to a hanger like a fixed wing again. Weird!

Wow, that is kind of weird. Well, like I said, I really don't know how real world helo ops work. I just noticed how the military choppers operated. It would be kind screwy to ATC clear your chopper to land at whatever runway, and then hear ATC tell you to hurry up and turn at the next taxi way, especially with a skidded chopper :-?

:-/ ::) I think my reply in that situation would be "Whatever helicopter to whatever tower, WTF?, over" ;D ;D ;D Semper Fi, Dave
