AI Time & Dates Question

Postby Mothball » Fri Jul 20, 2007 7:53 am

Before we begin any flight, we input month, day and year. Here's where the questions come. If we have flight plans for a season and year, do those flight plans only work for that season and year? Or, do they work continuously dispite the season and year of the flight plans? My PC can handle all the extra flight plans, I just don't want to have a bunch of un-used files on the hard drive. Thanx for any insites to this. Semper Fi, Dave

Do not quote me on this but if you specify a frequency in a flight plan I would imagine it would follow it. So it is logical to say if you tell it to fly in summer months only than that is what it would do.
But like I said I will not swear to this statement but it does make sense and we all know how much sense Microsoft put into this game ::) ;)

My guess is your speaking of AI flight plans you have downloaded/installed that replicate the current real world seasonal schedules of specific airlines. If your intent is 'realism', you would normally replace the flightplan with the next season's flightplan.

There is no data entry within a flightplan (traffic*.bgl) file that controls the year or season, only times relative to daily or weekly periods. If you leave the file in the sim the flightplans will continue to execute, year around.

If your intent is simply to have AI airlines flying year around, the 'seasonal' flight plans will do that.

Of course, if you leave 'old' schedules in while continuing to add 'current' schedules, your airports, and possibly the skys, will eventually run out of room..

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Thanx for the good replies gents. I appreciate them. Both of your answers confirmed how I was thinking the system worked. For right now I just want AI traffic in the skies, but I'm sure at some point that I'll want more realism of flight plans. Thanx again for the good answers. Happy flying gents, Dave.
