They're not taking off!!!

Postby bowler_man » Sat Apr 14, 2007 8:53 pm

Okay, so I put some AI aircraft on, and I went to Sacramento Int'l Airport. I taxi to the runway behind a Southwest 737. He holds short of the runway and I pull up behind him. I tune to tower, and am still waiting for Southwest to take off. There is no dialouge between the Southwest plane and ATC, and I am waiting for 5 minutes, and then the plane just dissapears. Why is that?

Because they`re on a timer, if theres no action for so long for whatever reason they warp to somewhere else.   For example, in a line of 7 planes waiting to take off, if the middle one is due out at a certain time and within certain tolerances it doesn`t happen, then it will warp to somewhere else.  Might be due somewhere else at a certain time, another airport maybe.

Well, he was first in line, and there wasn't even any talking between tower and him. So will this happen on a regular basis?

There maye have been incoming aircraft, one still on the taxiway, any number of anomolies, or he may have been too close his time for another appointment elsewhere.  It happens occasionally, you don`t see it all the time-depending on where your traffic levels are set at.  I use 60% for flying and 100% for viewing.  My levels differentiate from most though because I have an AI package installed and the percentage of aircraft is often higher.  This makes 60% still look real busy at some airports.

I think there are some issues with the hold short lines. When the aircraft get to the hold short line they should contact the tower, if they dont then they havnt crossed the point that activates that part of the conversation.I had it happen at one airport, but most are ok. I tested this by taxing up to the line then checking the ATC box to see if " request permission to take off ", would come up but it didnt, well not untll i actually crossed the line which the AI planes wont do. Test it for yourself and see.

This is defintely a problem at several airports the hold shorts are not propperly placed. You can solve the problem by using AFCAD. To test this out turn off AI and then make sure that runway is the active run way by setting the wind accordingly. then taxi down using top down view and see when and if the request for take off occurs. If it is past the yellow line then the hold short is misplaced.
If you give me the airport and runway I will check it for you. 8-)
