AI Aircraft Range?

Hi All  :) Iv'e been using AITM to edit my traffic files and it's worked great except there's one thing iv'e been wondering for some time. Sometimes when i enter a flight, i get a message saying: "Warning! Aircraft range limits reached for leg 1" and it's followed by a value such as: "(100nm - 2100nm)". When editing manually, I don't see a range value anywhere ??? Neither the .air or CFG  files of the aircraft have anything about range. The help in the program and website have nothing about it either. I usually ignore it and it usually works, but i'm just too curious about this range thing. Anyone else have any ideas?

I don't use AITM but, out of curiosity, did some checking in their online FAQ and looking at the .zip contents

I believe this is to promote realistic flightplans. It doesn't want a cessna flying trans-atlantic, or a 747 doing a 50nm hop.

Hi Dave, thanks for your info, sounds good to me. One thing i'm curious about is when i created a flight from CYQQ to CYYJ (about 15 min. flight) with a twin Otter, it still gave me the message. Anyways, i've unchecked "Check Aircraft Range" in the program as it doesn't seem to make a differance. Cheers! ;D

I would not worry about it as long as you know the plane is capeable of making the flight. But a twin otter might be a little much for such a short flight, a single engine might be better suited for that.  8)

As Gary states, an 85nm flight for the DHC6 is probably not economical or realistic,

In fact, West Coast Air fles DHC-6 floats between Vancouver and Victoria, but on the other hand Harbour Air dumped their twin otters for the turbo DHC-3 for their Vancouver-Victoria run.  I want the DHC-6 for the CFB Comox add on scenery and afcad by Vern Opperman as it is a Canadian Forces aircraft. ;)

You could use a B747-400 if you really wanted to but that would be over kill
Usually a air line will want to make the most money it can out of a flight and That aircraft would be pushing the margins just a little. I doubt if it would be full of passengers on each trip which means the cost would be more than you make not something airlines like to do if thay can avoid it.
But what the heck if that is what you want to do why not it is just a game after all. 8)
