In My option, watching AI isn't all that boring, for the while.. but it just gets lonely on that carrier (lol.)
Anyways, the Waikato already has some? I've never seen any there.

Any tools or proper installation instructions that i need to get?

In FS9 turn the "special effects detail" up to the highest setting....   You should see them after doing that.

But here's a little known secret.  A group of simmers are currently working on an entire carrier battle group as AI.  The carrier will have AI flying off it as it moves along on it's own.  The rest of the AI ships are supposed to have landable helipads.

Should be cool once it's completed.

Tough to say although I know for a fact that the project is in beta testing right now so hopefully not too much longer.  Don't know what site they will put it one but I'm sure it won't be too hard to find when it's done.  I just wonder what kind of frame rates this much ai will leave the average simmer with.  We'll see...

I've got some working AI (F14,  F/A-18, EA-6B, C1A, C2A aircraft )
flying from a number of carriers thatI have placed all around the
globe.

I used TrafficTools to compile the flightplans that I created and
AFCAD to create the parking, taxiways and runways on the
CV's.

The FS9 AI engine seems to have a number of quirks and
documentation is skimpy at best so getting AI to work well
in the special environment of carrier ops takes alot of trial
and error tweaking.

The process I use, after I place a carrier and create a battle group
of support and escort ships is to start with the AFCAD file.

I create an airport... KTR0 for instance is my USS Roosevelt
off the Golden Gate, then add the primary angle deck runway.
Next I add two runways for the bow cats.
If you are going to fly from the carrier as well you may need
to add some dummy runways to act as hard surfaces so you
don't "fall through" the deck.

After the runways are created I add parking along the starboard
deck edge, specifying the radius and parking codes in the process.
I then connect the parking to taxiways leading to the takeoff
runways. I add Navaids since I fly to/from the CV's that I place.

Using TT, I create the 3 files necessary to generate a Traffic_xxxx.bgl. The TT documentation is pretty good so making
the files is pretty straight forward.

Once everything is created I then position my aircraft on the
CV and watch the AI behavior.  I have the  TrafficToolBox.DLL
installed so I can view the list of AI aircraft and all the pertinent
information. It's at this point that you'll find you will be changing
things, exiting and restarting FS9 alot until you get things working
the way you want them.

I've gone a step beyond just creating the standalone AF2_XXXX.BGL
by embedding that code in the XML document that creates and
places the carrier. I use the "movable" USS Stennis package
created by P. Clawson. I've swapped in different island.bmps
to represent different CV's. I wind up with a single BGL that contains
the physical model and the AFCAD airport data.

So, there is no "easy answer" to your question but if you know how
to "tweak" XML and SCASM code, you can create a pretty
interesting custom environment.

Ok Paul, what are the chances of you packaging that into a .zip or a .rar and sending it my way??  That sounds exactly like what I have been struggling to do all this time.

Give me a day or two to gather up all the pieces and test it
as a standalone zip'ed file set.

I'll send you one of my CV packages based on the relocatable
Stennis package. I have one just off the Golden Gate.
That should serve as a guide to creating your own installations.

How do you find the carriers initially in AFCAD in order to create parking?

I belive there is only one default carrier in FS9, located just
southwest of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

There are a number of downloads that will add more CV's all
over the virtual world and those packages will tell you how to
find them.

The problem with the default CV is that it is "steaming" east, toward
the San Francisco shore, while the prevailing winds in SF are from
the west, so if you use real world weather you are most often
taking off and landing with a tail wind.

I eliminated that abomination and added two westward bound
CVN's that look alot nicer and let me launch from one, trap on the
other, then repeat the cycle in reverse :)
