Nagging problem

Nonexistent runways that come with afcads.  Like my JFK afcad, the ATIS says "landing and departing runway 2, runway 3, runway 4, runway 5, runway 6, runway 7, runway 8, runway 9, runway 10, runway 11, runway 12, runway 13, runway 13L and runway 13 R."  Of course, the only real runways at JFK are the usual 4.  On my San Juan AFCAD there's nonexistent runways 4/22 and 5/23. ::) Is there any real purpose to these?  How could a designer have possibly messed up that bad, I figure there's got to be a use for them somehow.  It's extremely annoying, and I don't see what purpose it serves.

Which brings me to another problem-when I tried to view the afcad, by hitting "open airport," the program freezes as it says "collecting airports..." Will updating afcad solve this?

Second question first: At least make sure you have the proper afcad version; Afcad ver. 1.x for FS2002 and ver. 2.x for FS2004. (2.21 is the latest I think)

Have never heard of anything like your JFK. The only possibility I could think of other than error, would be if its configured for 'special'  traffic, like ai Helo or Vehicle. Never had any experience with either.

You could try moving those files, like to your desktop. This might determine if those files are causing Afcad to 'stall'. You can then try opening those Afcad file(s) (still on the desktop) using 'From Specific File'. 'Browse' to locate the file and then 'dig' down thru the 'tree' in the left pane to 'open'.

"the program freezes as it says "collecting airports..." "
AF2 is not frozen; it's collecting airports; this can take several minutes even on a fast machine.

Some AF2 files contain many errors; check the valid runways and delete or edit the rest. Maybe author thought he was using taxiway lines but instead use runway lines. Run Fault finder.

In all my IT experience, when a program becomes nonresponsive it doesn't come back.  I'll try leaving it for a few more minutes however.

Does fault finder come with the base af2?  I am running the correct version.

Afcad's 'Fault Finder' is in the 'Tools' menu.

I left it collecting airports for 20 minutes, it hadn't budged.  It's definitely frozen.  I'll try updating it (I got a box the last time I opened it that said mine was 28 months old).

And thanks Dave, I'll look for that once I get the freezing problem sorted.
