AI Sound

If an AI A/C does not have a sound folder (file), can a folder just be added or is there more to it?

thx

The sounds of the AI planes are not in the plane's folder, they are located in the sound file in the main FS9. If that's what you mean?
But if your question means to make each AI aircraft sounds different then the other, I don't think there is something like that in the FS2004. However, you can check in Simviation and other websites for flight simulator for different AI Aircraft sound. As a result that when you fly you will hear other planes sounds more realistic (all the planes will sound the same, depend on the sounds file that you have in your FS9/sound folder).

If you want to have your AI planes to sound really good and you have the money go to http://www.fshotseat.com/
and get the smaller one called FSHotSFX

if you dont mind madcat, id like to post a question about ai sound here too (saves me making a post with the same name)

i replaced the defalt ai sounds with some from the defalt FLYABLE a/c.  i renamed the sound files the same as the originals, but i still get the defalt sound.  why?  is it not as simple as swaping a sound file?

thanks,

Does the new sound folder's sound.cfg point to a valid sound file folder?

hmmm.....

I haven't looked into it further but there's something weird about AI sound. I may be wrong but I think there's a setting in the air file that dictates which sound the AI aircraft have. I played around a lot with AI helis and I've created a whole bunch that use the C208 air file - guess what sound they have no matter what the sound file in their folder says  ;)

BTW the AI aircraft sounds are in the main FS sound folder starting with ai_lgjet01.wav. Take a look for yourself.

Most FS fans won't realise that AI aircraft have been used in CFS since 1998 although they weren't introduced in FS until FS2002 was released in 2001. The AI sound has always been defined by the Engine Type in the AIR file. The AI Only drones in CFS will work perfectly without a Sound.cfg file but the AI sound is restricted to basic Piston, Jet etc. I haven't tried it but the AI Traffic in FS should work on much the same principle although things like different sounds might have been refined into more basic categories.

PS. The basic Engine Type numbers are defined in the default Aircraft.cfg as 0=Piston, 1=Jet, 2=None, 3=Helo-Turbine, 4=Rocket, 5=Turboprop
