AFCAD are files that describe how runways, taxiways, gates, parkings, ground lights and even the navaids of an airport are laid out (did I forget something? ???  :) ).

No buildings, AFCAD does not use them.

A file AFCAD can describe bettered (one hopes) stock airports or it can be totally original (describing a fictional airport), but it's made and/or edited always (that I know of) by using the great AFCAD program from Lee Swordy.

PS
Each and every AFCAD files has to be activated in FS9, usually putting said file in in the fs9\Addon Scenery\Scenery folder.

AFCAD is a program that allows you to edit existing airports or to make new ones. It will not put hangers or buildings but with it you make the taxiways and all of the runways making each runway ILS or not is up to you. You also make the hold short spot for each runway and decide where aircraft park. You also make all of the navaids and place a control tower if you want one.
There are a lot of afcad files out there for specific airports the best way to handle them is to make a folder in your ADDON SCENERY folder and call it AFCADFILES or whatever you want then make a scenery subfolder and put all of the afcad scenery files there. By doing it this way you only have to activate the scenery one time.  Then put any new afcad files in the same folder and fs will automaticaly activate them. 8)
