Duplicate AI Flight Plans

'Lo all!
I've put up with this long enough - it's been with me right since I installed the sim first time.
At least 60-70% of all AI aircraft in my sim fly in tandem. I generally ignore it; but it makes takeoffs and landings at major airports a bloody nightmare with one or the other being constantly sent around. Landing at JFK is like playing roulette.
Is there a way to delete one set of AI flight plans? I know nothing at all about this part of the files.
Thanks.

If you are having trouble with AI you can turn down the number of aircraft in your settings. I normally run 75% which provides enough AI to keep thing interesting but not in the way while taking off or landing.

"I know nothing at all about this part of the files." Under these circumstances I'd recommend not deleting anything (cut and paste the *.bgl files to a backup folder may prove to be more benificial) Are you certain they are duplicates and not just several flights using the same aircraft? Hope this helps.

my 2002 started this months ago and I don't know why either ... or how to correct it w/o uninstalling fs2002. most aggravating is two red call signs showing for many "flights" AND ATC talking to both of them :-[

I have had this same problem since using FS2002, and also with having recently installed FS2004 - it seems the planes all congregate 5-10 min into the flight, if I hang around the departing airport long enough. Furthermore, it seems to occur at any airport. If anyone finds a fix, it would be great news...

Duplicate flights: This can happen when you install additional traffic and the author has used the default flightplans as his template,

well, i figure that is where the duplicates came from ... but how to relieve the situation and KEEP all tht i have added myself??
There are thousands of flight plans in there.
those who upload plans for us to download should be a wee bit more careful ... or selective. guess I'll trust only my own from now on.

I deleted the default FS traffic file and am running just the airlines I added and still duplicates. I swear 4 out of 5 planes is duplicated 2 or more times.
I am wondering if duplicates could be from the fact I'm running airline traffic AI files such as 'Delta' and 'South West' but I also am running 'TrafficUSA' which includes these airlines as well. If each program shows the exact same flight path at the same time could it cause duplicates?
I think I may start by turning them all off and then turning on the traffic files one by one...when i get time anyway.

For FS2004:
Yup, thats your problem. TrafficUSA uses the default traffic file as its template. At least one of the others must have done so also.
A handy tool for for working with ai is the MS FS2004 Traffic Toolbox SDK:
http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/fs2004_downloads_sdk.asp#trafficOnce installed, a new flight screen "Tools" menu is available. With the 'Explorer' function you can sort thru all active ai flights, in this case, to locate duplicates. (If you right-click the column header bar you can select 'file path' and the traffic file names will be displayed).
The Explorer is best used from

I've seen this in my FS9 a few times too, only it was with Cessnas instead of commercial traffic. I occasionally see formations of two and somtimes three 182s flying very close together. I haven't a clue what would do this, because I haven't installed any addon GA traffic.
