No choppers in A/C or flight plans

I noticing while using TTools, that there are no helo's in eather the A/C txt files or in the flightplans. Oops they wouldn't be any in flightplans if there are none in A/C txt files ;D

My question is why not and can they be added to the A/C list and then given flights to follow?

I think it would be neat to be flying in a cesnna or mooney and come upon a helo crusing along.

Can it be done?

Hi Steve. The reason they don't appear on the list is that the AI cannot handle helos. As an experiment in the early days of FS2002 I modified the default Bell206B to work as AI traffic by giving it a fixed wing AIR file. This worked fine but it behaves just like a Cessna 172. Some time later I successfully used this idea for my own S-51 AI Only drone in the Fox Four CFS2 Korea project.

I believe someone posted a set of AI helos somewhere in the FS2002 sections on this site. I haven't tried them but suspect these will have fixed wing AIR files similar to mine.

Thanks Hagar

It was really just an idea, and since there were none in the files I kinda guessed that FS couldn't handle them but still it would be neat if it could, just one more bit of realism.

The special AI helos I mentioned are posted here & on the following page. http://www.simviation.com/fs2002heli30.htm

It depends on which type of aircraft the Osprey AIR file is based on. If it's a modified fixed wing aircraft the AI can fly it & it will behave like any other fixed wing type. If it's based on a helo it will not work in AI.

I checked out those AI Only helo packages. It seems I was correct & they use fixed wing flight dynamics. Basically the same method I used in my early experiments. The files come with sample AFCAD "heliports" + AI traffic tracks & full instructions on how to create your own "heliports". I copied this from the Readme.

Thanks Hagar.

I'll take a look at possably putting a helo pad at my new airport. You mentioned that you modified a cessna airfile for a helo, and that it be haved much like a cessna, or something  like that. What about using an Osspry airfile. Would that work better. Just another idea.

Hey guys, there are AI helo's in our NEMAI package found on AVSIM, Flightsim or Sim-outhouse.

The 2 Helo's are USCG Daulphin and the Jayhawk. Michael MacIntyre did some rework to Holger Sandman's AI file and they work very nicely. They won't take off straight up but they have short take offs and come in on a very long glide slope.

Michael is working on an almost AI Helo only for NEMAI. Huey's, Chinooks & Blackhawks.

I also have some in my Edwards AI file found at those same 3 sites.

you're better off creating a new runway at each airport or else you will have fighters flying right through the helo's on final.
