Using AFCAD2 with FSX

Postby reider » Fri Mar 16, 2007 10:14 am

I found this yesterday, looks very very useful indeed.  Contains all the necessary software and instructions.  Not yet used one of the adjusted afcads in FSX but probably will today.  It tells you where they are contained, which folder/file is for which airport (though you need a calculator to work this one out) and allows you to decompile so you have an afcad suitable for use in AFCAD2.  Then reverse it after saving the changes.

Re: Using AFCAD2 with FSX

The biggest problem I found was locating your airport in the FSX folders/files.  I installed the FSX SDK from Disk 1 of the Deluxe set and looked for a list of the folder contents, found none.  However, I found an fs10.Airports .dat file in the following location after install and update from MS was added.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK

The file can be edited with notepad.  I used `edit/find` to locate the two airports I was initially interested in making adjustments at.  After installing Just Flight, Traffic (FSX Compatible) Liverpool had extended parking, some planes where half buried in buildings and the main runway was tarmac at both ends but grass in the middle.  Humberside had the same building problems and some taxiway markings on the main (long) runway tarmac.  I`ve adjusted the buildings problem so far but nothing else. This is how I located the folders/files, its explained in the download, this is from the view of a personal user too (me).

From the file I got.....

EGNJ,53.574444540,-0.350833386,36.9,D,2,0.70,United Kingdom (Humberside)

Using the windows calculator, I got the following results from the 2nd figure in the Humberside Airfield data......

180-0.35=179.65
179.65/3.75=47.90
Figure to use = 47

Using the windows calculator, I got the following results from the 1st figure in the Humberside Airfield data......

90-53.5=36.3
36.3/2.8125=12.9
Figure to use = 12

Humberside = File 4712 (Divide 47/8 and 12/8 to get the folder number)
Humberside = Folder 0501 (5.875 and 1.5 respectively), trust me, it works.......

Now, to repeat this for Liverpool.....

EGGP,53.334178627,-2.847403586,24.4,D,2,0.70,United Kingdom (Liverpool)

Using the windows calculator, I got the following results from the 2nd figure in the Liverpool Airfield data......

180-2.84=177.16
177.16/3.75=47.24
Figure to use = 47

Using the windows calculator, I got the following results from the 1st figure in the Liverpool Airfield data......

90-53.3=36.7
36.7/2.8125=13.0
Figure to use = 13

Liverpool = File 4713 (Divide 47/8 and 13/8 to get the folder number)
Liverpool = Folder 0501 (5.875 and 1.625 respectively), ah, same folder just a different file, when its decompressed there will be loads of files there but I guarantee this EGGP will be one of them.......
