What are the "must have" freeware (or absolutely necessary payware) addons for FSX?

That's a tough question, since tastes vary.  Especially since you didn't specify which sim, and if you're interested in general aviation, commercial or military aircraft.


But if it's for FSX, the B5 Starfury and it's Red Bull Race texture is an absolute "must have! (only kidding! I uploaded the texture yesterday. )

But the the "High Rez Moon" is good.

Mainly non-aircraft, like the FSWC and aicarriers2.

Really, any time you are planning to be flying in a certain area for an extended amount of time, I would recommend that you search the main FS sites for scenery in that region.
