Free Add-ons for low-spec PC

Hey, I just started to make my FSX look nicer. Donwloaded and added:

  • Nick's Sunfix
  • taxi_enhancement
  • aptlight_environment
  • PikNik (didn't work for me, though - removed!)

and now am looking for further add-ons that are framerate friendly and won't force my system to it's knees!

Any suggestions?

Thx Meck

[spec: 1.8GHz AMD Turion64, ATI Mob.Radeon X700, 1Gig RAM, XP; FSX - no SP]

Get Water Configurator here on the Vee. It does wonders on your water, which can be adjusted accordingly to your likes, and is easy on frame rates.
Look under FSX Utilities Page 1, 6th item down.

Hope this helps. :)

I have a lower spec computer, and as much as Id like it to.... FSWC did nothing for me. Not the fault of FSWC... its my comp. Cant handle the nice textures and reflections.

I have found that alot of the photoreal scenery, like what can be found at www.blueskyscenery.com is quite friendly with framerates, I guess because it eliminates the autogen. The free demo's from FTX are also very good looking, and nice on framerates for me too.

I myself do like the default water for screenshots - for daily flying I can't hardly handle any water effects (prefer other than a nice water eating my fps)...

And indeed, I do like photoreal scenery, too. Though I'd like to see more german coverage! Don't know where to start in the US - there's so many! Haven't heard/seen much about FTX?! Is it some kind of photoreal, or just a change in textures? Maybe I'll try that! Available here at SimV?

I thought the exact same thing!

If (your machine and fs2004 are) configured nicely and with the right add-ons it will kick a mediocre FSX a$$ any day ::)

For an example, look here or here.

Agreed! ;) FSX may look better out of the box than FS9 does out of the box, but you can't get the performance of FS9 in FSX on a lower spec PC.

Right! If you have a machine that is comparable to mine (check the sig) and if your the same kind of nitpickers as I am ... then go with FS9 and forget FSX untill you can afford a great machine.

If you just like flying and don't mind slideshows ... then go ahead and choose FSX

;D ::)
