With my current download of Holger Sandmann's new Alps, I've realized that what really makes the mountains is the textures.  The default FS textures, in my taste, have way too much relief to be realistic, they look too 'spotted'.

SO, I'm looking for some replacement textures for ground.  Something like SilverWings, but I'm not going that direction because it ruins the cities.  Any thoughts?

I personnaly use the Alaskan terrain textures set, coupled with the cliffs.zip replacement textures. Look for them at flightsim.com or avsim.com.

"Alaskan terrain textures" will offer some new textures for different kind of terrains, providing a much better color set.

cliffs.zip will replace the rocks textures, a must-have in my opinion.

The Bella-Coolla scenery from Holger was much better looking with those files.

NB: if you follow the install instructions for the alaskan terrain textures, they will appear only in alaska/canada and not in the alps.

You might try 'FS Terrain'.     I found it good.
