Some scenery assistance please

After years of poking along using hardware that was barely able to handle all of the previous versions of MSFS, I have finally been able to afford a decent system.  Now I need your opinions regarding scenery add-ons that will most benefit the pilot who enjoys flying "low and slow" using small general aviation equipment.  My home base is located in middle South Carolina and I usually enjoy the east coast although I will now venture throughout the entire country.  I am looking for maximum detail for both urban and rural areas.  I believe my new system can handle most of the existing add-ons.  Any suggestions?  Thanks very much!

Hi John, welcome to SimV

For general realism....

My first suggestion would be 'terrain mesh' add-ons, which add much greater detail to the geography, particularly in mountainous areas. Available in the Scenery download section (Holger Sandmann's are great), or the GlobalTerrain Mesh section (which covers most of the Sim world).

Although my system doesnt handle them, I would also suggest one of the water enhancement add-ons. (fs9wat.zip, Scenery p4, waterzone.zip, p11, as examples.)

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Dave!

In your opinion are the terrain texture products better for someone like me who operates at lower altitudes and flies primarily VFR?  Should I consider also a product that adds roads and other landmarks if a good product that does this is available?  What about Mega Scenery or Mega City even though those products only cover certain areas?  I wonder if all of these products break down as a pilot descends?  I really appreciate your input!

John

PS:  my system is as follows:

P4 3.46GHz, 1066FSB 2.5MB Cache
Motherboard - Intel 925XE Chipset 1066/800MHz FSB
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM @ 533MHz
NVIDIA GeForce 6800, 256MB DDR3 dual digital & TV out
Serial ATA RAID 0 - 148 GB (74 GB X 2) Western Digital Raptor 10,000 RPM w/ 16MB Cache
Creative SB Audigy 2ZS High Def 7.1 Surround Firewire
