Freeware Avro Lancaster BIII from this website for FS9 query

Postby eddywinch82 » Sat Mar 16, 2013 5:22 pm

Hi there,

Does anyone have the Freeware FS2002 Avro Lancaster BIII from this website that has been updated successfully
to the FS2004 Compatable version ? that they could email me if possible at eddywinch82@gmail.com ? I downloaded
the FS2002 version from this website downloads page, and updated it with the FS2004 patch but it appears to be corrupt
as I cant get it to work I have followed all the instructions properly. I used "addon converter x"
to get it to work with FSX converting from FS2004. I have analysed the texture folder and the files appear
to be corrupt i.e. when I click on them they appear just to be coloured lines.

Best Regards

Hi Eddie. In my experience most FS2002 aircraft will not be compatible with FSX so I'm afraid you're wasting your time. The incompatibility is with the MDL file & not due to the textures. I'm not familiar with the FS2004 patch you mention.

The textures you describe sound like they're in an Extended BMP format which cannot be opened with normal graphics editors. You would need a texture converter like DXTBmp to open them.

Update. I tried the Lanc with the FS2004 update & much to my surprise it works in FSX. The panel & sound are aliased to use the default DC-3 which is not very realistic. You don't need to convert the textures but disable DX10 Preview if you use it.

Hi Hagar,

I have managed to get the Lancaster installed, although for some reason
it isnt displayed in the Aircraft menu, I have to do a search for it to find it
under Avro, also for some reason in the aircraft menu, aircraft arnt always displayed
with the correct aircraft name, any ideas why that might be ? Anyway
thanks for your help,

Best Regards

FS2002/4 aircraft don't have a thumbnail.jpg in the texture folders. This could be the cause of your menu problem. It can be fixed by popping a screenshot named thumbnail.jpg into the texture folders of aircraft without them.

You might like to try a little utility that will do the job for you. http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=autothumbnail&categoryId=
