Afterburner

One more (the last) problem with my understanding on Kirk Olsson's F-16.  I am having trouble understanding the afterburner effect on it.  I have repeatedly read all documents on the afterburner but am still stuck without it working.  How is it activated and for clarification on this topic, DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE DSB'S TYPHOON INSTALLED TO MAKE THE F-16 AFTERBURNER WORK??

Help is greatly appreciated...........  (seeing as how I am mentally challenged with untechnical things)
