Looking for Pennsylvania Scenery

Postby Jester » Thu Feb 03, 2005 12:39 pm

I've gotten a little tired of flying over my home state that is not flat, yet appears to be flatter than Ohio in FS98 or FS2000. Any ideas on where I might be able to find some realistic scenery for Pennsylvania?

Thanks,

JOhn

Jester,

Dowload the freeware terrain meshes available here at SimV in the file libraries and install them.

Thanks for the info John :)
Any idea which mesh is for the Pa/ Oh /Wva / Md area? I don't, nor will I ever, have broadband - the downside of living in the middle of nowhere. Since downloading time is going to take a while, it would be nice to get the right file the first time. :)

Thanks again John,

John

Jester, good news first or bad news first?   ::)

Go to avsim, here is some detail on the files you're after:

Filename: pa_30m_mesh6_8.zip
License: Freeware
Added: 11th December 2003
Downloads: 1744
Author: Phil Cruikshank
Size: 5431kb

You should be able to search for the above when you get to the file library.  Here's the bad news...  there are like 10 files you need to download to get the whole mesh, you're gonna be at it for awhile if you're on dialup.

Here's what I would do...  Buy Realscene 2004, or one of the other pay versions.  I have realscene, and here's why I like it...  It covers the whole US for one AND it includes updated landclass date, so not only do you get better looking hills, mountains, etc. you also get a more accurate placement of the random texture files.  i.e. there isn't a farm in the middle of the desert kinda stuff that you get with the standard landclass in FS9.  You can then download the really high res mesh for specific areas you want, like Yosemite or something like that.

Just my 2 cents....  good luck :D

Thank you jco, tough choice time coming up - including a upgrade to F$ 2002. If I do that, Pandora's box will flop open, creating a whole host of hardware upgrades needed. Oi, Oi, Oi.

Thanks again,

John

John,

Go to the main opening page here at Simviation.  Click on the "downloads" link on the left side.  At the mid-bottom of the next page select "Terrain Meshes".  Download the map file.... it'll show you which files you need for PA and area.

No need to go to avsim or anywhere else.    ::)

As to the dialup download speed... yeah that is a problem with big stuff like mesh.  Maybe start downloading and go to bed  ;).

best,

The idea of doing the download during the night is a winner John. :) I do not think I'll be upgrading to 2002 any time soon  -  I have too many PCs than any "normal" person would own already.

Thanks for the info,

John
