Guage Removing Program

Postby Ovenator » Wed Oct 20, 2004 7:41 pm

Hello everyone !!! I'm a newbie to the Flight Sim world (Why I never did before I'll never know) and have found that after trying a ton of Aircraft and then deleted them for whatever reason, I have also aquired a huge back log of Guages. I've been looking for a good and reliable program to remove them and figured I'd field this one out to the "Flight Sim" community. It's good to be onboard folks. Happy flying to all !!!

Welcome, welcome, welcome, Ovenator!  Good of you to join us here at SimV!

There is deffinitely a program that can remove the gauges that aren't being used, but there really isn't any reason.  Unless you are worried about disk space, they aren't doing anything but just sitting there.  They don't take up memory while you are flying, as they are dormant unless they are on the panel you are using at that very moment.

An added bonus of having a large gauge compliment is that if you ever get into panel design, it gives you a large range of gauges to choose from, instead of the boring ol' stock ones.

If you still want to remove them, though, here is the link to the utilities section of FS2002.  I'm not sure whether or not this will remove the new XML gauges sets for 2k4, as it was designed with FS2k2 in mind, but you could try it.  6th one down:

Good luck and happy flying,

Travis

Thanks muchly for the warm welcome and the advice Travis. You're right !!! I really don't need to save on disc space, and you just never know about the design aspect of things. So for now I think I'll just leave them all there. I will, however, check out the link you gave to me. i mean it would only be polite wouldn't it ?

I have, until very recently been very sceptical of addon manager utilities. Until I had a go with Flightsim Manager:

Its available here: (FlightSim Manager 2.6.1) http://www.simviation.com/fs2004utilities4.htm

It is trully superb! You can install any aircraft, scenery, panels, sounds etc by just selecting the zip file of the addon in the wizard (with the exception of addons with .exe installers)

And its free! -  It'll scan for unused guages if you ask it to!

I would very much like to see all freeware addons released in the same structure. And I would love to see all freeware addons optimised for this program. Its amazing!

Hi Ovenator & welcome. If this is for FS2004 here's a little tip. You can paste all the 3rd party gauges into the Panel folder of a new aircraft to check it out in the sim. If you like the aircraft & wish to keep it I suggest moving them into FS9\Gauges. If you don't wish to keep it, deleting the aircraft will also remove the gauges. ;)

This only works in FS2004.
