What plane is this?

This morning I watched a rerun of an episode of Route 66 that had an interesting  amphibian aircraft featured and I'm wondering what it was and if anyone has done a flight sim model of it. It was similar to a Grumman goose or widgeon except the main wing was in a gull like configuration and the twin props faced aft as opposed to forwards and the engines appeared to be reciprocating as opposed to radials. The registry number was N400024 if that helps any. Since the episode was filmed in 1963, the plane had to be a 1950's or earlier model. Anyone out there have some info on what manufacturer and model aircraft it was?

Are you sure it was an amphibian? Sounds like a Piaggio 166. http://www.p166.com/

the engines appeared to be reciprocating as opposed to radials

Radials are also reciprocating (piston) engines. I think you mean inline.

Edit:
The registry number was N400024 if that helps any.

Too many digits. N40024 was a Piaggio P.136-L1 amphibian like this one. http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1185472/

That's It! The paint job is different, but that's the plane! Now is there a flight sim model of one I can download?

Now you know what it is you can have a search round for one. I found a P.166 for FS2004 here. http://www.simviation.com/fs2004props7.htm

They ran the episode again the other day. Beautiful long shot of the plane banking in on final as it decends to the lake, touches down, taxis up to the shore as the wheels deploy, then comes ashore and turns around before the door opens and the baddie climbs out.

I just did a search for FS9 for a P-136 and came up empty. Since I love amphibians, I would love to have one. If anybody finds one, please post the addy. Great looking aircraft.  :)

Sorry for the confusion, I moved the orginal topic to 'Aircraft Wanted' section, then realised patchz already made a request for the aircraft. All is good now. ;)

Interesting aircraft looks like a bigger brother to the Republic Seabee. :o
