The best planes are most often payware aircraft. But some really good freeware models can be found at:

Project Opensky

Alrots page

And for ratings and reviews of a lot of FS2004/FSX aircraft, check out:

Flight Sim Guide.

And of course you can find good models at Simviation, Flightsim.com, and many other pages too.

(Avsim will be one of the best once it returns.)

FP - I believe that he was asking for specific *best* planes.

Granted many of the "best"  are payware, but there's some pretty darn good freeware models hosted here at Simviation.

Alrot's models are considered among the best.

I would ask the original poster, though, Rise9094 - do you have any particular preference as to type of airplane?

Some of us prefer real airplanes - cooling fan up front, two wings, made of strong woods and linen (okay, steel tube frame is acceptable), while others go for tube liners and "jets" ....

Here's a couple of "freebies" that happen to be of "payware" quality and they're both here at the Vee.

A gorgeous B-25:

An awesome F-86: (quite possibly the most payware-like quality)

A Service pack for the above F-86:

There's alot of other great planes available but these two stand-out to me as far as being free and of high quality.

Hi

Check the list here.
http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/archive/2 ... d-fsx.aspx

Most of the planes listed are quite nice.
#56) Mooney Mite M-18C is a one of the best of them, imo.
#28) Spartan Executive is another one high on the list too.

i suppose that depend what you mean by best planes? i personnaly enjoy propellers airplanes. i prefer the sound of a roaring motor from the whisteling of jet engine but it just a question of taste . most of the time i fly on cessna 172 with the time i handle it very well, it allow me to go anywhere and be able to land very easily. these days i fell in love with the dh 89, de havilland model 1930, 2 engines it look like boring, like a flying bus, but it very flyable. well, like the other says, try some and coose what suits you. good flight. jlab58
