Jailbird from "Con Air"

What aircraft have you been unable to find after a long search? There may be an answer!

Jailbird from "Con Air"

Postby iggy0075 » Thu Sep 15, 2005 5:32 pm

Does anyone know what type of plane the "Jailbird" is from the movie Con Air w/ Nicolas Cage?  I doesn't matter if there is one out there that has its own textures and stuff, I just want the plane to fly around.  Its one kick-ass plane!!!!!

Thanks,
Jason Myers

Fairchild C-123 Provider.

BTW - that design holds the disctinction of being the only design that has been designed to be flown as a glider/jet/prop/turboprop.....

The original design was meant to be a cargo glider, but the war/need ended.  It was converted to jet power, but the engines of the time weren't powerful enough and the design was finished as a twin piston prop plane.

Later in its life, some units were converted to turboprop power.

THere are still a few flying around.

It had its moment of fame in Vietnam.

While it looks like a baby, twin engined Hercules (C-130), it actually came before the Herc.

Do a search for the plane. I have repiants for "Air America" and "Jail Bird". If you want the real plane, check Reno-Stead Airport just north of Reno, NV. Last I knew the plane used in both films is still located there. http://www.aviationclassics.com/images/2migs.jpg
look in the back ground

EDIT: I have found that the plane is now in AZ
