Take a look, can we build one?

What aircraft have you been unable to find after a long search? There may be an answer!

Take a look, can we build one?

Postby Skligmund » Thu Jun 09, 2005 1:00 am

Piper PA-31T3 T-1040
Really cool, rare airplane. Only 24 were built. I have information regarding all 24. I have most, if not all pertinent information regarding the aircraft, I grew up flying on SouthCentral Air, which had 6 (maybe 7, N308SC unconfirmed between a Cheyenne or a T-1040) of these. I know the guy flying N309SC in first picture, and knew the guy who crashed and perished in N302SC (Shown second picture as N9152Y).

The creation of this aircraft would mean very much to me, and I hope we can educate each other during creation. I will help out in as many ways as I can. This aircraft holds more of my fondest memories growing up than any other thing or activity.

If you can find a 3-view, and dimensions, I'll do one.

I could attempt an alternate panel Skligmund. I've only ever done one for personal use but if you send me a few pics I could try a panel. In holidays anyways and leaving on vacation in a whole three weeks..  :) So I have time.

Here is the link to a three view T-1040 drawing. This was sent to me by The New Piper, it is an actual full size (.5Mb gif) engineering drawing from 1980.

http://www.acsalaska.net/~skligmund/T1040threeview[2].gif

To download it, right click and save as, the picture doesn't show up if you just click on it.  ???

I'll get more panel stuff as soon as I can.

I'm working on the photos thing, like I said, 24 were built, not easy to find photos. I got some in a photo album somewhere, I'll post them or link them as I get them.

Again   THANKS!!!!!!

Just an early development screenshot;

Image

It's already out of date, as I have now put the props on, and started on the gear.

I will be doing 2 models, one with the wing tip tanks, and one without.

I'm planning to put a VC in the model, does anyone have any cabin photos, or will I have to make a guess based on photos of simmilar aircraft?

I also plan to have animated doors, including the small one on the nose.

Can someone tell me what sort of engines they used?

I'm hoping to get the textures on tonight, or tomorrow, and I'll post another picture when this is complete.

;D

I'll get you those ASAP, I'm driving down to Kenai tomorrow, and I have all the technical information there. I should have all the information you need by monday night or tuesday.

As for cabin photos, it is basicly identical to the shots from a PA-31-350 Chieftain in commuter setup. There is no barrier between the cabin and cockpit. I'll see what I can find on that.

But for a quick reference, it uses PT6A-11's @ 500 shp each, same as the PA-31T1 Cheyenne I.

OK, the gear is done, and the textures are done. All I've really got left is the inside, and a few small parts to animate.

Also, there's the painting in various liveries.

I'm hoping to get someone else to do the FD...
