Candian Forces Aircraft

Being a Canadian Citizen, soon to be enlisted (once i am 18) I can't help but want to fly around in flightsim in Canadian aircraft.

There are alot of downloads out there, but not as many for canadian aircraft. From the ones I have downloaded I most enjoy the CT-114 Tutor, and the snowbirds package that goes along with it. Its too bad that it is such an old dying plane.

To me flying search and rescue would be the greatest job, and thats what i am shooting for. Currently Canada flies twhreemain SAR aircraft the CC-115 Buffalo (soon being replaced by the Spartan) and the CH-149 Cormorant and the CC-138 Twin Otter. Currently you can download some excellent versions of the twin otter. There is a team right now working on the Cormorant (From there development shots it looks amazing). But as far as the buffalo is concerened there is nothing I can't even find a civilian or any other type out there to download. Even though this plane is dying it is an amazing aircraft I would love to fly.

If anybody knows some good Canadian aircraft or has any comments, please share.

Well, for the blow them out of the air style CF aircraft, I like Aerial Foundry's CF-18 for sure  ;D.  Its 20 dollars canadian i think though.  Helicopters im not too sure, im sure theres a griffon somewhere... Good luck on your enlistment, and remember, keep your marks up  :)

I can't recall seeing a Buffalo for a recent version of FS. It would be a nice plane to have.

As for Spartan...maybe it will be the new plane, maybe not. That decision is far from having been made.

Personally I think that the CL-415 should be the new fixed wing Sar plane...Canada has lots of water and it is amphibious after all. :)

If you think the DHC-5 is amazing (agreed, it is!), you ought to give the DHC-4 Caribou a tryout.

Well, if payware isn't off-putting for you, there's the super-awesome Cloud 9 F-104 package.  There's a ton of different variants, plus a plethora of CAF repaints that range through the lifespan of the Starfighter.  The C9 team is currently working on an update that will add a new model, plus a D-version (2seater), plus new VC.  It's by far the best in my hangar as of right now.

Also, DSB has just announced that their a bunch of their stuff have gone freeware, so the (updated) Hawk 100 should be available soon.  They also are releasing their F-5A and E models as freeware, too, if you like the (sort-of) older stuff.

And the aerialfoundry Hornet, as Rocket_Bird said, is good as well.  And it's cheap, too.

Ok, here's my contribution:

Search over at Avsim for 'buffalo' - you will find a Comox AI package giving you a scenery and AI CC-115 & CP-140.  You will also find a Buffalo for FS2002, which should be usable in FS2004 (especially if you use one of the add-on panels!).

The afore-mentioned Mike Stone (pmstone.com) also has a fairly decent CF-105 Arrow in his line-up.

If you can't stretch to the Aerial Foundry payware Hornets (although they are absolutely superb, one of my better recent purchases) searching here on SimV will get you Dein Reimer's FS2002 Hornets, which are still more than acceptable.

You are already aware of the CH-149 project, I for one can't wait!  However, search on Avsim for 'labrador' and you will get a superb rendition of the recently retired CH-113; there is also a FS2002 CH-149 there, but that may well work in FS2004.

If you are looking for the CP-140 Aurora, there are a couple of options.  Mike Stone (again!) does a decent P-3, and there are repaints available.  For the ultimate, however, the FS KBT P-3 can't be beaten.

There will be a Bell 412 at Hovercontrol soon(ish) which can obviously be repainted into a CH-146 Griffon - there is a payware version available already at LZ, in Canadian colours, very low price from memory.

There is a Canadian Ice Recce Dash 7 over on Avsim; there are now two CT142 Gonzo's available, the Dreamwings one is probably slightly better.  There is also a decent T-6A model available, and a repaint to turn it into a NFTC Harvard II.

I hope that little lot helps!

Firstly, thanks for reminding me why I learned to repaint simulator aircraft.

Search google for 'Eric Dantes' and search here at SimV for 'canadian'

Good Luck.
P.S. Don't forget to get CA, AI repaints as well

Yep.  The F-5A package has the standard varigated camo and one of the demonstrator paints (red & white w/ maple leaf on the bottom.)  Circa '92 maybe - can't remember the actual year, but I do recall seeing it at an airshow around the early 90s.

I might whip up some of the CAF aggressor paints for it, too.

If you'd like something in a period aircraft, Icarus offers a Westland Lysander, WW II versions, for about $14.00 US.  The Icarus Lysander comes with a number of models and color schemes - several Canadian (I believe a number of Lysanders were manufactured in Canada during the war).

If we are getting back into the oldies (WW2) there are tns of aircraft. I can't remember where but i got a hold of a very nice mosquito. Today I came accross a CF-101 Voodoo, maybe i will go back and download it. The voodoo was a fine aircraft, yet so was the F-5 yet we retired that and sold them to turkey!

UGH!

The only Voodoos worth keeping were the EF-101 (actually a USAF bird on loan) or the 6/7 CF-101 airframes put aside for conversion to  CE-101 ( a CAF version of the EF-101 that was proposed) standard.

The Voodoo wasn't as good as the plane it replaced (CF-105 Arrow) and by the mid-80s was way over the hill.

The CF-116 (CF-5) was a whole different story...the planes had just undergone an upgrade to make them better fighters and weapons systems trainers when retired!

Personally, I am waiting for Aerial Foundry's CF-100, for now I am satisfied with the Alphasim CF-100
