Century of Flight - Minus Concorde

I have just purchased FS9 and am starting to get to grips with it. So far I have noticed big improvements on FS8. On looking at the Aircraft which have been included to celebrate 'A Century of Flight' I ask myself, "Why, Why ,Why was Concorde omitted

? Surely this was THE major advance in Civil Aviation in the twentieth century. Can I be controversial and suggest that if Concorde had been designed and built in USA then it would have been included!!!
Appropos Concorde is it possible to import it to FS9 from FS7 as I did for FS8?

You're probably not wrong Tyndareus

Alas M$ tend to consider Europe and European things as not worth doing...
But on the bright side there is a totally awesome freeware Concorde available, the Project Mach 2 one. The updated FDs etc are available at most sites so you can have an awesome supersonic experience

actually if you read the artical on how they select which aircraft are included(can be found through the in game menus) it gives a good reason for it not being in there.

ozzy72 - Thank you for your response and advice. I found the freeware which you mentioned and I have now downloaded it. Relatively easy even with schoolboy French from far too many years ago!!! Now the fun will start - hopefully.
Craigt - Thank you also for your response. Maybe you could direct me more specifically to the article which you mentioned. Iwould be interested in MS reasons for not including Concorde in FS9 especially when they thought it was good enough for FS7!

I've also heard that concorde's been omitted because microsoft has close links with boeing and after the tragic concode crahses, they felt justified in leaving it out. I think it was in one of the recent issues of Pcpilot.

Thanks for your input Grimmy. There may be something in that but they still included Boeing Aircraft even AFTER the Singapore Airlines fatal crash in 2000 (their first!) which somewhat diminishes that reason. As I stated to Craigt I am still interested in why it was in FS7 and not FS9 which, after all, is a celebration of a 'Century of Flight'.

I think it is not in FS9 because there is already an awesome model available for us. I am sure that whether they say it or not M$ does look to see what is out there and when they find something good they decide not to spend any of the valuable time to design that same plane. Alot of time is spent in creating a plane for FS, If they find one that is as popular as that model is then why would they waste any time trying to make a better one? Seems like a good idea to spend that time on upgrading something else like ATC or weather.

Thanks Kevin. That explanation sounds good to me.

i will look it out. It actually had alot to do with the complexity of the flight model, nothing else. The users of flight sim are always wanting to have it as real as possible and obviously concordes flight dynamics and model are just far to complex for most people, it was used as a selling point for 2000 but also a number of people complained it wasnt realistic enough. So had they put it into ACOF alot of people would have bought it that usually wouldnt have just for concorde, since its so complex they wouldnt have been able to fly it and MS would have ended up with tons of complaints.

Thanks a lot CraigL. I have now read the article and their reasons seem sound to me. At least I am now satisfied that there were good and sound reasons for dropping Concorde. As usual this site has come up trumps once again. What a gem!!!
