F-104 Starfighter

What aircraft have you been unable to find after a long search? There may be an answer!

F-104 Starfighter

Id like to see a good Gmax model of the F104 Starfighter. I have that F104 thats out, but its gettin pretty old and the realism is so-so (compared to other add-ons nowadays) Captain Sim is makin a 104:

Great shots huh. Bad thing bout this 104 is that its payware.  >:(  So i was hoping someone could make something similar (in realism) to this, only freeware.

Asking for something comparable to that...and free might just be a bit much.

I get half that good and a price tag will be attached to at leat some of my stuff. :)

Well i guess that just depends on the designer, not necessarily on all the detail and realism of a pack. Example: Ive seen countless add-ons where realism reaches its extreme point such as in the FSD T-38 and the GC He111. However these are freeware. I think that an excellent model, panel, textures, and DVC are enough to make me and many others happy. Payware normally includes a couple other treats such as manuals, clips, and some more paint schemes, but i myself dont mind if it doesnt have any of that stuff. Personally, i think the only way i would buy a payware item is if the money gained is used to fund a program like an aircraft restoration. There are freeware designers who do almost as much work as those payware designers and they still make the item freeware. Anyways thats my opinion. And now back to the 104, i guess a model and texture thats at least close to this would me good enough (and hopefully, would be free; and no other goodies need to be included)

sweet I thought they were only doing the C and G models, so is that a TF-14G or F-104D in the second shot? If I can figure out a way to get it with my card its mine ;D

The one in the second pic (of the first post) is the TF-104. Captain Sim is doing the F-104G and T. Go to their site for more info:

i've often considered the f104 as i got a nice revell model i could work from,
although from my pov its not the fact the CS one is highly detailed and imho awesome- i think its the fact nobody dare challenge cs.
but then thats me, others may think differently...

but jees those textures on the cs birds are nice  8)

It doesnt have to be a challenge with Captain Sim. A good model, and a heck of a good painter can make a splendid F104. If another good freeware F-104 is done, it will simply show people that quality/realism is only a partial factor with regards to payware; the other factor is the reason for the designer to make the add-on; for personal benefit so you can pay the bills or buy a couple of beers, or to fund (like i said in the other post) a certain project. if someone builds a nice 104, it will show CS that there are decent people out there that dont care about the money, but about pleasing simmers all across the world with more realism and free planes.

There is an FSDS 1 source file for a F-104 G at http://www.freeflightdesign.com. If you are working in FSDS 2 you could make a new one out of that with all the bells and whistles.

Heres a 3-view pic of the F-104A at this site:

By the way Dan, Tluk, if you are thinking about creating a 104, id be glad to help in either panel making or making textures.
