Can't remember where I saw it but I have looked everywhere for the "Raiders of the lost ark" movie prop. I do know it is hiding out there somewhere but my grey cells won't let me find where.

as far as I know there is only a version for FlightGear called 'Indie_FW1' by Jon Burgeois. I have never seen a version for the Microsoft Flightsims.

You are in luck... It's a Horten Flying Wing.
Do a search here at Simviation for ''Horten" , also at Flightsim.com. You will find various flying wings, big & small, for both FS9 & FSX.

It's a purely fictional plane. It was designed by Norman Reynolds (the production designer for Raiders of the Lost Arc) based on Northrop prototype drawings (probably the N-1M) and Ron Cobb's drawings of the Gotha 229. The mock-up for the film was build by Vickers in England and painted at EMI Elstree Studios in London. After the film the plane was brought to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

Among the best flying wing models are the Northrop Prototype by Tim Conrad, The HO.XViii by Skysailor, the FS8 models by Steve Robinson (they can easyly adapted for FS9 or FSX) and - if you like soaring - the Horten IVA by David Rowberry.

Thanks everyone! I was sure my old laptop had this but I could not for the life of me remember the specific fs. I knew it was fictional but then again just because it isn't real..... must make me a second hand lion.

Thanks, Dielselpunk, for the info. I forgot about the Gotha. It's great to have some different stuff to fly. Great name you have. I wish we had more dieselpunk, & also steampunk textures & craft to play with.

I did dl the Indie_FW1 and took a look at the textures and sound files but I am woefully inept at the thinking involved to convert this thing to run in fsx. I do not have anything disparaging to say about the tons of airlines and buckets full of repaints out there other than they tend to get redundant. Perhaps there exists a vacuum out there for this kind of aircraft just for what-if stuff.

Another interesting fictional 'plane based on reality is the one in "The Gods Must be Crazy II." It's a 2 seat side by sideenclosed cockpit Lanair which was originally built with 2 McCulloch chain saw engines. Watch the movie and you'll be totally convinced it's real.

There are a lot of planes, that fit right into the dieselpunk genre, from WWII prototypes and fictional planes to the GeeBee Racers, to a russian flying sub, that can actually dive. Planes and aircraft, that fit into the steampunk genre are a rare breed, there are some steam-powered victorian planes and some airships. Kevin Bryan of Unreal Aviation did a steampowered helicopter and a also steampowered ornithopter. He did also some great airships and other planes that fit into both genres. The zeppelin package by Bill Lyons is among the best flightsim add-ons ever.

Most of this add-ons will work in FS9 and FSX, but their natural environment would be FS9 with Golden Wings III installed.

Theoretical it's possible to convert a FlightGear Plane to FSX, but the work involved is more, than creating a plane from scratch. You would have to convert the model, create new textures and a new panel/vc, write a new sim and so on and so on.

So if you absolutly want to fly this plane download and install FlightGear, it's a great Sim with a lot of interesting planes and it's free.

Thanks for the info Dieselpunk. I did have flightgear on my old toshiba laptop with this particular version but I have no joy using fg with my newer (win7) set up. There is a Dreisen tri motor with gull wings and it looks very similar to the Indie version.....maybe just a repaint for that would work. Thanks again everybody.

That sub is quite fun, & I have all of Kevin's stuff. Bill Lyons's downloads have been simply stunning as well. I have his whole collection. My Golden Wings install is probably bigger than my FS9 & P3D combined! lol.
