Wallis Autogiro

Quite a few years ago I met Wing Commander Keneth Wallis who at that time was developing his autogyro which eventually was used in A James Bond movie and one of the spaghetti bond movies too. At the time he had 2 prototypes flying and was trying to interest the military in the project. Un fortunately this amazing little 'plane never got past the "interested" stage. Hello Log.... ...!

There are a few very nice Gyrocopters/Gyroplanes around.
The Wallis Autogyro is available here in the Sim V Library.

I also have a 2-seater "Barnett" Gyrocopter, a 2-seater "Xenon" Gyrocopter....
..and a lovely little single-seater "Bensen" Gyrocopter, which I regularly fly as an alternative to my Cessna 150.

They are all available from various FS 2002/FS 2004 sources, can be used in FSX, and any (missing, etc) gauge problems can easily be corrected with FS Panel Studio!

They all appear in many of my FSX screen shots!

Thanks chaps. Loved the vid, I never knew so many modern autogyros existed. Loved the photos too Hagar, that's the version I saw Ken using at Shipdam. I was on a tour at Eastern radar at the time. Ken was a regular visitor to the mess at Watton. He had a colorful background and was revered by the Canberra crews as a great inventor. I declined his offer of a check ride, but after watching him spin this contraption around the boundary, I wondered why. BTW he mentioned that his ideas came from Benson who at the time were trying to get one of theirs into production. Have to do more research.

The flight sim "Bensen" Gyrocopter is similar to Ken's Little Nellie, and is my favourite little fun run/fly about!

The early Gyrocopter's rotor had to be "pre-rotated" by hand to reach safe take off revolutions.
The latest Gyrocopters are fitted with "pre-rotator gears" which couple the rotor to the engine gear-box via a flexible drive.
The drive is disengaged when the craft is in the air, and the rotor continues to spin with air passing through the blades, thus obtaining lift whilst in flight.
The flight sim "Xenon" Gyrocopter is interesting, in that the pre-rotator can actually be engaged/disengaged with the use of the flight sim "Flap" control!
Engage for a quick take-off, and disengage when safely in the air at altitude.

One of the cheapest methods of taking to the air....

I could never, EVER, fly Flight Sim Helicopters, in the past 15 years of trying...

..but these little Gyrocopters are a joy to manage and fly!...No complications...and no instant death!!
