Colonial Vipers

What aircraft have you been unable to find after a long search? There may be an answer!

Problem...sorta

Postby SilverFox441 » Mon Feb 28, 2005 6:07 pm

Work on the cockpit procedes...with a "minor" hickup.

The TV sets did not include a throttle or any of the other "conventional" controls that I have to fit in...little things like a lack of a landing gear handle. :)

There is an unused panel beside the pilot on the left...throttles can go there, but what about the gear handle? Think I should hide it down on the right beside the pilot's seat?

No matter what I do the cockpit will not conform to the reference pics...kinda hard to do when bits weren't included. :)

Its a shame the FS platform ends at 100,000 feet msl.  A viper would be an excellent aircraft in a sim with un-limited altitude.  (Xplane)???  Anyway, in Xplane it would be possible to take her out of the atmosphere.  I personally prefer the 70's edition of the show.  Somehow or other a female Starbuck just doesn't fit.  I am highly suprised that no game developer ever attempted a Battlestar Gallactica combat sim.  Complete with bridge operations, launch and recovery bay ops, and of course dog fights with cylon raiders, it would be more fun than a human being should be allowed to have.  LOL, there are more Star Trek and Starwars titles than imaginable.  Why not a very immersive an complete Gallactica experience??

My suggestion is Buttons and switchs instead of levers and handles.Imagination goes along way with fill ins.

I've actually decided to do something odd (No kidding!), I'm going to do it in a "sorta" flightsim style. :)

Flight Control Assignments:

Stick Left/Right: Roll
Stick Fore/Aft: Pitch
Stick Twist: Yaw
Right Pedal Up/Down: Throttle
Gear on a Switch on the Right Eyebrow Panel.

Should make for an interesting VC and has the advantage of conforming better than anything else to the TV set. :)

Update:

Work progressing on effects and VC.

Modelling finished except for some touch-ups and VC parts. Texturing just about finished...VC obviously affecting this as well. Animation not yet started, which is why the gear hangs through the doors at the moment. :)

Beauty shot:

No.  ;D

This pic is from earlier, before the gear was fitted. The effect is not finished and is currently on the Logo Light setting. When finalized it will be tied to a guage in the cockpit to work as an afterburner...with appropriate sounds. :)
