Are there any freeware downloads of the Supermarine Spitfire with a autopilot?

no. Spitfires didnt have an autopilot installed in the real world.


there are Freeware Supermarine Spitfires for download, but none of them have an autopilot.  You can add one if you want  if you have FS PANEL STUDIO.

I wasn't aware the Mustang was fitted with an autopilot. The Spitfire certainly wasn't. Why would you need it?

If you have an aircraft with a suitable autopilot it should be easy enough to add it to another 2D panel using the appropriate Panel.cfg entries. You might also need to modify Aircraft,cfg.

Hi, From memory in the mid 80s allot of mustangs had there avionics upgraded which included an auto pilot. It might sound strange putting one in a Spitfire but I want to do some long flights and land at every strip and airport in the sim  I would not have a clue how to modify a cfg but I do have a Seafire installed

OK, I see an AP would be useful for a Mustang as it had a long range. The Spitfire always suffered from its short range as it was originally designed as an interceptor. The longest range Spitfires were the unarmed PR versions.

No Spit was ever fitted with AP, you just trimmed the aircraft. I'd be interested to see any articles on AP fitted P-51s as I've never heard of any....

Interesting side line.

The only reference to a P-51 autopilot I can find is the P-51 Excalibur 3 racer and transatlantic flyer.

Whether the Spit had an autopilot in real life is beside the point. No reason you can't have one in FS if you want one. If I knew anything about them I would have a go at it myself. Being a seat-of-the-pants merchant I've never used one.

adding gauges to a 2D PANEL in FS9 or X .. with FS Panel studio is relatively simple.  then again, being that I do have the program, i suppose that it could be done.  .... given the right words be spoken.

I found a YouTube vid which shows modern avionics, purely a personal decision made by the people restoring p51's to add a ap as well I think.
