As far as I know, there aren't any decent freeware models for FSX. There is the payware Wings Of Power B-17

http://www.shockwaveproductions.com/store/wop2_b17/

I've almost wanted to buy it. It's supposedly for FSX, but after the last payware aircraft I bought, I'm a little hesitent

I have over 1200 aircraft ;D freeware and payware and some of the payware stuff is not near as good as some of the freeware that I have so I know what you mean ;)
I don't know about FSX but I have the WOP B-17 for FS9 and it's great,It looks great flys great I love it :)
So if you want a great B-17 I would and did buy it ;D

I've been considering it, but I'm not sure down compatible it is with FSX/SP2. I sent them an e-mail asking about it, so i'll post the answer when they reply

"Fuddy-Duddy" for FS9 works in FSX, except for the glass. The only extra thing that needs to be done is creating a "thumbnail.jpg" for the texture file so it shows up in the "showroom" when you select your aircraft.

http://www.simviation.com/fs2004vintage68.htm

That page also has another "Fuddy Duddy" texture only download with a link to:

I haven't downloaded that set (contains two versions), so I don't know how they work in FSX
