Mil Mi-8 for AI?

What aircraft have you been unable to find after a long search? There may be an answer!

Mil Mi-8 for AI?

Postby Lazerbeak » Sat Nov 18, 2006 4:39 pm

I'm working on adding UTAir AI to my sim. Ivan gave me some great flightplans, and now all I have to do is collect the planes. Most of them were easy to find, but I'm having a little dilemma finding a suitable Mi-8. I thought about using Vladimir Zhyhulskiy's Mi-8, but it was designed as a flyable craft, so I'm concerned about frames.

Does anyone know if Vladimir's Mi-8 will work well as AI, and if not, is there a more "purpose-built" Mi-8 out there?

EDIT: Never mind, I found a great one (designed for AI) on avsim.ru. Unfortunately, I still can't seem to locate one of the UTAir liveries for it (the white/blue one), so if anyone can point me towards it, I'd be very grateful. :)

Surely Ivan has this aircraft and repaint if you said he had the flightplans?

Which one did you get... Dimitri Shurov one?

Only orange paint available for that model (and it has some weird flyinf characteristics at takeoff and landing)

For a look into the future: http://www.trafficsystem.ru/forum/index ... wtopic=179 (somewhere halfway down there is a preview of an improved paintkit for the AI Mi-8

At the moment i use the Vladimir Zuhlysky model (2nd release with VC) for ai, on a limited scale

Indeed, I'm using the Dimitri Shurov version. I too noticed the odd takeoffs. Shame there's no white version, but I guess it's enough to tide me over until RATS releases their UTAir package (that Mi-8 sure looks beautiful).

As for the Vlad Zuhlysky model, I still have fears that it might wreck what little FPS I'm getting. :P

You can use models like that but they would need to be heavily modified, like re formating the texture to a smaller format DX1/DX3, deleting stuff that is not needed for example, sound, panel, and a few stuff in the airconfig. relating to

-"[Radios]"
-"[autopilot]"
-"[TailHook]"
-"[gear_warning_system]"
etc.
;)
