Boeing's dead Sonic Cruiser

What aircraft have you been unable to find after a long search? There may be an answer!

Boeing's dead Sonic Cruiser

Postby microlight » Fri Mar 07, 2003 7:56 pm

Sad to hear the Boeing have shelved their Sonic Cruiser plans - but has any enterprising GMAX builder out there thought about designing a detailed BSC model? There's one in the early pages of the passenger jets download section, but a model a la POSKY or MelJet would be great.

Any takers? I'd do it myself, but I'm a real beginner (and hopeless to boot) on GMAX.

Yep, about two months ago. I never believed they can do it, it was too ambitious and without enough known technology. The old Concorde will be grounded soon without replacement. but for meanwhile [glb]Long Live Concorde![/glb]
I think the old FS model is enough for a plane that never really existed.

It's interesting the byproducts of flightsim. I wasn't a fan of the Sonic Cruiser until I started messing around with AI Traffic. Then, I figured out the merits. It cuts down trips in the 3-4 hour range to two or so. Really nice. It would've been a great airplane. Too bad.

Yep, sure is a pity Boeing cancelled that project, would have been nice to see a supersonic plane replace the Concorde. But i do believe British Aerospace and some Japanese company are still planning and may be developing a new supersonic aircraft. But i dont know whether they've cancelled those plans. Anyways, there still might be hope.

I am also disappointed that Boeing dropped that project.  IT was partly due to the sales of the A380, which is going into production. I still can't beleive that they're going to build a double-decker airliner.

By the Way, the Sonic Cruiser was never a SuperSonic Cruiser.  It was designed to go MAch .98- no sonic boom so It can fly fast over land.
