Adding Models to ADE9x

Postby G.K. » Thu Mar 22, 2012 7:34 am

Probably a dumb question this as I'm new to this design stuff. :-[

I've found some hangars online, 6 models in one bgl file in a folder called scenery, the textures are in a folder named texture.

I've added the models (BGL's) from the scenery file into the library and they are now listed, I can add the objects into my project. saved compiled etc. However they are not visible in FSX.

At a guess, the textures are not being applied....What do I do with the textures (DDS ext if I remember correctly) to get them into ADE9x?....or maybe it's not possible?

Any help appreciated :)

Sounds like you downloaded what is referred to as a scenery 'Object Library'. This consists of a .bgl file and the textures for the models contained in the .bgl. If you can provide a link to the download we could verify this.

An Object Library is added like any other (simple) scenery addon in FSX.

Create a folder to contain the files anywhere on your hard drive....example; in .....\Addon Scenery\ create a new folder named \Object Libraries\. Inside that create

Thanks Dave, that worked. Now I understand.

I now have 6 new hangars :)

As an aside, if you should create some scenery that you want to release using these libraries, you would need to include the object library in question in the scenery package. Otherwise, people who download it won't see the objects--just as you were unable to.

To clarify the distribution of third party object libaries.  Generally if you are using libraries created and uploaded by third parties then don't include them in your package.  The reasons being that first you are bloating your package with stuff that the user may already have and second the risk exists of them installing the object libraries several times.  The usually accepted way is to list the libraries used in your read me file and tell your users where to get them (if they don't already have them).

Of course if this is your library then you may want to distribute it with the package.

ADE has a simple addin that will give you a list of third party libraries used in your project.  This can be the basis for what you might say in your readme file
