Concorde reheat effect disappears at altitude ...

Postby microlight » Tue Jul 07, 2009 2:33 pm

Can anyone help? I wrote a reheat effect and control gauge for my PM2 Concorde a while back, using the smokesystem. I have only just realized that although the effect's visibility is fine up to around FL280 in terms of the visual effect switching switching on and off, it disappears once you start climbing past this level. Turning the effect on at FL270 means it stays on until you turn it off, but it won't turn on again after that. The reheat is actually working though, as the fuel flow gauges demonstrate.

Or, if you start a saved flight at a higher altitude, the effect will show just once - if you turn it off and then on again, the effect doesn't show.

I've tried it using the control gauge, and also bog-standard manual method by taking the gauge out of circuit and using the 'I' key to turn on the smokesystem - same result. I know that there's a bug in FS9 (same as FS2002) concerning the vertical location parameter for smokesystem .fx files; maybe this is another one. Does anybody have any ideas? I'd use the [lights] switches, but I don't have four control lines to spare...

Thanks.

EDIT - 13th July: no takers for this? It's a tough one, huh.

Looks like I've fixed it. I have two effects, a complex afterburner and a smoke generator which seemed to conflict if they were too close together. Moved the smoke effect backwards by ten feet et voila.

;)
